She said, “The first time I read the Barbie script, my reaction was, “Ah! This is very good. It’s a shame it will never see the light of day because they won’t let us make this movie. But they did.”

Robbie and co-star Ryan Gosling (who plays Ken) first announced the press tour on social media. They shared a video confirming that the tour will visit London, Canada, Berlin, Los Angeles, Mexico, New York and Seoul. During a Vogue interview in May, Robbie revealed that he and Gerwig wanted the film to cater to fans and haters of Mattel’s iconic doll. She said, “We certainly want to honor the 60-year legacy that this brand has. But we have to admit that there are a lot of people who aren’t Barbie fans.”

The “Suicide Squad” actress also discussed the sexualization of Barbie dolls and how she dealt with it in the film. She said, “I was like, Okay, she’s a doll. She’s a plastic doll. He has no organs. If he has no organs, he has no reproductive organs. If he had no reproductive organs, would he feel sexual desire? No, I don’t think he can.”

Robbie further explained that Barbie dolls can be sexualized but “shouldn’t be sexy.” The doll only wears small, short clothes “because they’re fun and pink. Not because she wants you to see her back.”
