Actress Carrie Fisher finally got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after her untimely death in December 2016.
The event was attended by her daughter, Billie Lourd, and “Star Wars” costar Mark Hamill, who both gave emotional speeches while paying tribute to Carrie’s lasting legacy.

Matt Fritch opened the ceremony and introduced Walk of Famer Ellen K as the dedication emcee. He thanked fans watching at home via live stream. By the time the event started, over a thousand people were watching from around the world.
Ellen explains how Carrie is the 2,754th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and lists just a few of her many acting credits. After starring in “Shampoo” at age 16, Carrie went on to appear in “Laverne and Shirley,” “Sex and the City,” and even received an Emmy nomination for “30 Rock.” She is, of course, perhaps best remembered for portraying Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” franchise.
Ellen then handed the microphone to Mark Hamill, better known as Luke Skywalker. Mark began his speech by saying, “Today… may today be Carrie Frances Fisher Day.”

He began by saying that he was “so happy” to be here with his daughter, Billie Lourd, and so many of his “Star Wars” colleagues. He explained how he met Carrie when he was only 19. He joked that she was a “worldly” 24 at the time they met.
During their first meeting together, she said that every expectation she had was “blown away.” She described him as charming, funny, cute, and brutally honest. At their first meeting, he remembered how she had told him a story about her family that she questioned if she should tell him. He also praised her natural sense of wisdom.
“I’m so happy that we’re here to honor her legacy and her accomplishments,” he told the live audience, pulling out a notebook to read something he wrote six years ago, shortly after Carrie died.

“Carrie is one of us all, whether we like it or not. She’s our Princess,” he said, calling her “determined and tough but with a vulnerability that makes you want to see her succeed and be happy.” While he admitted that she could be “a handful,” he said that everything would be “less interesting” if she “not a friend like him.”
“I will never stop missing him but I am very grateful to have him all this time,” he said. “So, thank you, Carrie,” he concluded. “I love you. He said that it would be “perfect” if Carrie was here, but he said that Carrie would “want us to laugh and have fun.”

The microphone then passed to Steve Nissen to welcome Billie Lourd to the stage. Nissen joked that while Princess Leia is famous in a galaxy far, far away, Carrie’s star is right on Planet Earth.
Councilor Hugo Soto Martinez was then invited to the stage to present the award; he then handed it to Billie. The two pose together as Stormtroopers, C-3PO, and R2-D2 look on. Nissen then returned to declare May 4th Carrie Fisher Day in Hollywood.
Billie Lourd then took the stage to thank the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for this honor. He said his mother would be “thrilled” and “grateful.” He thanked his “sky uncle” Mark Hamill and all the fans who stood in the rain. “I adore you; he adores you,” he said to the cheering crowd.

“My mom used to say you’re never really famous until they make you a PEZ dispenser,” he joked, saying that he believes the true mark of fame is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Billie calls it a “double whammy” that her mother has both.
He goes on to recount the story of how he didn’t want to watch “Star Wars” when he was a kid because he thought it was “too loud” and he was confused that his mother could be “the woman on TV.” However, in high school, boys start teasing her about her famous mother. At that point, Billie decided to watch the movie on her own accord and “finally find out what all the fuss was about about that woman on TV.”
Billie says that she doesn’t want her mother to be “hot or cold” but she realizes that “no one will ever be as hot or as cold as Princess Leia.” Later that year, they went to Comic-Con together and Billie realized how much the character was loved, even after all these years.

She called it “surreal” to see so many people dressed like her mother. He described how people had tattoos of him, named their children after him, and would wait in line for hours just to meet him. “It’s a side of my mom I’ve never seen before,” Billie said.
“Nobody can play it like my mom,” he continued, saying that he’s only fallen more deeply in love with “Star Wars” since his mother died six and a half years ago.
Carrie was on a flight from London to Los Angeles when she had a medical emergency fifteen minutes before the plane landed. He was in intensive care for four days before he died on December 27, 2016. His mother, Debbie Reynolds, suffered a stroke and died the next day.

Now, Billie is determined to carry on her mother’s legacy and her own love for the franchise. She joked that she bought every piece of Leia merchandise she “laid eyes on Leia” and even wore a dress with an image of Princess Leia on the front. Billie became emotional at the end of her speech, remembering how many people still dressed up as Leia at last year’s Star Wars Celebration, even though she had passed away years ago.
Billie went on to say that her mother was an incredible actress from her first role at age 16 in “Shampoo” to her last role in “Catastrophe.” “She can sing, she can dance, she can act, and she’s a very brilliant writer,” he said, referring to the various books Carrie wrote about her mental illness and drug abuse.
“Take your broken heart and turn it into art,” is one of Carrie’s most famous quotes, and Billie reminded her fans of this sage advice at the end of her speech as she thanked her friends and family who came through the rain to pay. tribute to his late mother.

After taking a photo with Mark next to the star, Billie then emptied a packet of glitter into her hand and threw it at Carrie’s star. He then knelt in front of the star and placed both hands on the star before taking a picture with the droid as well.
The Carrie Fisher star is located at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard near the El Capitan Theater for fans to visit.
