When it comes to making money, the caramel-toned singer does better than dropping hit songs. Like many entertainers, Blige became the success she is today by branching out into many different fields.
One of his most profitable ideas was his production company, Blue Butterfly. The “Family Affair” singer is in for a big buck after joining forces with BET to create a new project.
As part of their deal, the entertainment company will look first at Blue Butterfly Production’s non-scripted projects and secondly at their scripted programs. Surprisingly, the Hip-hop icon already has a TV show in development.
The project produced under the first-look deal is an unscripted talk show called “The Wine Down.” The project will be hosted by the Soul Train Award winner, with some of the biggest names in the industry as his guests.
Unlike regular talk shows, this unscripted program will bring influential people from various fields including entertainment and politics. These individuals will join Blige for a “raw, provocative, insightful and real conversation” over a bottle of wine.

While the show’s guests have yet to be announced, Deadline reports that the liquor for the talk show may come from the “Be Without You” artist’s brand. The New Yorker owns a wine label called “Sun Goddess,” which he launched in 2020 with Italian winemaker Marco Fantinel.
In addition, the Grammy winner serves as executive producer of the show “The Wine Down” with his partners Ashaunna Ayars, Nicole Jackson, Lisa Erspalmer and Davis Entertainment representatives John and Jordan Davis.
Naturally, scoring big with the entertainment giant meant a lot to “Mr. Wrong” singer. However, the multi-hyphenate star is more than happy to deepen his relationship with BET.
“BET has been one of my biggest supporters throughout my career,” Blige admitted in a statement. “Now being able to create together, for them to support my vision for the kind of content I’m going to create, is something I’m grateful for and excited about.”
The 12-time NAACP Image Award winner revealed that she has many projects in the works and is proud to say that there are more to come. The “Body Cam” actor founded his production company in 2019, using it to create various stories about his music and other narratives.
The singer’s Blue Butterfly company recently executive produced the documentary “Mary J. Blige’s My Life” with Amazon Studios. Earlier this year, they launched the “Women’s Power Festival and Summit,” which was a sold-out event.

This incredible achievement, alongside her BET collaboration, is just the end of a great year for the Academy Award nominee. The “I Can Love You” singer received 6 Grammy nominations, including for the Album and Record of the Year categories.
At this year’s Super Bowl, the brunette goddess co-headlined the game’s halftime show with fellow Hip-hop icon Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. In February, the 51-year-old released his 15th studio album, Good Morning Gorgeous, and recently wrapped up a promotional tour for the album.
All in all, the Critics’ Choice Award recipients have had an eventful year. Given the feat he achieved in 2022, one can only wonder what the record breaker will do in 2023.
Queen of R&B Receives Billboard Icon of the Year Award
Earlier this year, The Blast shared that Blige continues to make headlines as one of the greatest female entertainers. The living legend, who started his career in the 90s, received a prestigious award for his achievements.
At this year’s Billboard Music Awards show, the “True Love” artist scored a Billboard Icon Award, marking Blige’s eleventh award. Following the announcement, the 51-year-old woman released a statement expressing gratitude and happiness for the honor.
