Matt Damon has revealed his experience of depression while filming an unnamed Hollywood production.
The actor, who rarely makes public appearances unless necessary, spoke about his unpleasant experience in the midst of a gruesome film production while promoting his upcoming project, “Oppenheimer.” Fortunately, he has a special person – his wife, Luciana Barroso – in his corner, supporting and helping him through the dark stages.
Matt Damon’s Wife Is Instrumental In Maintaining His Professionalism
Damon chatted candidly when he, along with “Oppenheimer” co-stars Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt, stopped by “Jake’s Takes” to promote Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film. Toward the end of the chat, the “Good Will Hunting” star admitted to feeling depressed about the movie not turning out as he had hoped.

“Without naming any particular movie, sometimes you find yourself in a movie that you know, maybe, maybe isn’t what you expected, and you still make it,” the “Saving Private Ryan” actor began.
He later recalls his wife “pulling him” because he “fell into a depression” halfway through the production when he still had “months to go” and had taken “his family somewhere and made it difficult for them.” Despite his man being in the dark, Barroso was unphased as Damon told host Jake Hamilton:
“And he just said, ‘We’re here now.’ You know, and it feels like, I’m proud of myself, in large part because of him, being a professional actor, and what it means to be a professional actor is that you go, and you do 15 hours a day and give it your all. , even in what you know will be a losing venture. And if you can do it with the best attitude, then you’re a professional, and he really helped me with that.”
Although the “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” voice actor did not mention his name, fans have begun to speculate that he is most likely referring to the critically panned 2016 film, “The Great Wall,” which failed to recoup its $150 million production budget. grossed just $50 million in the United States. During a 2021 podcast appearance, he revealed:
“I was like, this is exactly how disasters happen. It is not compatible. It doesn’t work as a movie. I have come to consider that the definition of a professional actor; knowing you’re on turkey and saying, ‘OK, I’ve got four more months. It was a siege at dawn on Hamburger Hill. I’m sure I’ll die here, but I’ll do it.’ That’s as cruel as you can get creatively, I think. I hope there will never be that feeling again.”
Meanwhile, in “Oppenheimer” – a documentary centered around the atomic project, Damon took on the role of Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project. The film explores the profound impact of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer’s brilliance, arrogance, and unwavering determination, which forever changed the nature of warfare, resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, and sparked widespread panic.
The film will debut in theaters worldwide on July 21 from Universal Pictures.
‘Jason Bourne’ Star Remains Upset About Turning Down THIS Movie Role
In May, The Blast reported that Damon expressed deep regret for turning down a role in the 2009 science fiction epic, “Avatar.” At the time, he called the decision “the dumbest thing an actor has ever done in the history of acting.”
Most of his regrets stem from the lump sum he missed out on following the film’s billion-dollar success at the Box Office. As it turns out, the “Thor: Love and Thunder” star will earn an estimated $250 million if he takes on the role of Jake Sully, who was eventually portrayed by Sam Worthington.
Although his Hollywood colleague Zoe Saldana, who plays Neytiri Sully, tries to comfort him by claiming that he doesn’t think his career “suffers because of it,” Damon asks, “Do you know what kind of movie it would have been if I had been in it?”
Despite her pain, the Golden Globe Award winner did not hold back her praise for Saldana’s involvement in the various films, which have crossed the $2 billion mark. The list includes the original “Avatar,” its sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” and Marvel Cinematic Universe projects such as “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
