During an appearance on the TODAY show on Thursday, September 15, the “House of the Dragons” star revealed that she has met several members of the Royal Family.
“I met the current King Charles [III]I told him he had great shoes,” Smith said before recalling that he met Prince Harry “once at the Polo.”
“He walks up to me and he goes, ‘Dad,’ because he’s watching the show,” she explained. “I hear the Queen has watched it, yes, and she used to watch it on the projector on Sunday night, apparently.”

Smith said that Prince Philip, who died last year on the eve of his 100th birthday, was not a fan of the show, adding, “I know that Philip is definitely not [watch it].”
“A friend of mine once sat next to her at dinner and she asked him. Actually, I think Philip asked my friend if he did ‘The Crown,’” Smith recalled. “My friend could not refuse. At the end of the meal he said, ‘Philip, I have to ask, have you watched ‘The Crown?’ And [Philip] apparently turned to him [saying]’Don’t be funny.’”

It seems the 39-year-old actor has been dating some members of the British family. In 2016, she appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where she recalled meeting Prince William “very briefly in line at the polo.”
“The woman doing the line said, ‘This is Matt and he’s going to play Prince Philip.’ And then he said, ‘Do you have any advice for him?’” Smith recalled. “And then I thought, ‘God, I’m going to die.’ All [William] said is, ‘Legend. He’s an absolute legend.’”
While it is unclear whether Prince William has seen the show, Prince Harry has admitted to watching it. During an appearance on “The Late Show With James Corden” in February (via Page Six), Harry said, “They’re not pretending to be news. It’s fiction.”

“But it’s loosely based on the truth,” he admits. “Of course, it’s not very accurate. … It gives you a rough idea of what that lifestyle is, what the pressure is to put duty and service above family and everything else, what can come of that.”
Harry went on to say that he was “more comfortable” watching “The Crown” than seeing “written stories.” [his] family,” or his wife, Meghan Markle. “It’s the difference between [‘The Crown’] which is obviously fiction, take it how you will, but this is being reported as fact because you should be news,” he said. “I have a real issue with that.”

After Queen Elizabeth II died, “The Crown” temporarily halted production on the show’s sixth show, out of respect for the late Queen, who was the longest-reigning monarch in the country’s long history.
In a statement to Deadline, creator Peter Morgan said, “’The Crown’ is a love letter to her and I have nothing to add, for now, just silence and respect. I expect we will stop filming out of respect as well.”
