Matthew Perry Gets Loving Tribute During Thanksgiving Day Parade

Matthew Perry received a sweet tribute at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

The salute was subtly delivered in a performance outside the iconic department store. Viewers can see singer Jax take his place on the Toys ‘R’ Us float as he performs a cover of Jet’s 2003 hit, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl.”

The presentation was all the more effective thanks to the singer-songwriter’s outfit of choice, a graphic hoodie featuring shots from a beloved scene in the television sitcom “Friends.”

Fans Praise Jax For Honoring Matthew Perry

Jax, real name Jaclyn Cole Miskanic, dazzled all eyes as she subtly honored Matthew nearly a month after he was found unresponsive in his hot tub. The “American Idol” star wore a gray sweater that featured a Thanksgiving scene from “Friends,” which ran from 1994 to 2004.

In the image, Courteney Cox’s character Monica is seen wearing a turkey on her head while Chandler Bing, the character played by the late actress looks shocked.

Observant viewers were quick to notice the 27-year-old’s attempt to pay tribute to the “A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon” star and they quickly took to social media to praise him for the act.

Next to a photo of Jax wearing a gray hoodie with a microphone in his hand, the audience of the third Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade add, “This shirt is amazing. Huge tribute to #matthewperry ❤️ #MacysParade.”

“Love Jax’s sweatshirt for the #matthewperry Thanksgiving tribute ?? #MacysParade #Thanksgiving #Jax,” a fourth person written above another view of a long-sleeved hoodie, and the fifth declared, “#Jax wearing a hoodie with Matthew Perry made my heart melt. ? #MacysParade #Thanksgiving.”

Telling what happened in the scene on display, it comes from the fifth season of the iconic ’90s show, titled “The One With All The Thanksgivings.” In this episode, the friends exchange stories about their worst Thanksgivings while Monica tries to embarrass Chandler by teasing him into taking off his clothes as payback for calling her “fat”‘ in a flashback.

However, his plan goes awry when he accidentally drops a knife, nearly severing his toe. On this day, Chandler was upset by the heavy comments and stormed out. Later, Monica tries to break the ice by placing a turkey on her head, complete with fez and sunglasses.

Macy’s March Briefly Disrupted By Some Pro-Palestinian Protesters

Unfortunately, activity at the march temporarily cooled as protests took place, with participants sticking themselves in the road, blocking routes, and chanting “Free Palestine.”

The protest led by pro-Palestinian activists, numbering about 30 people, saw people take to the streets, stick themselves to the ground, and aim to disrupt the event to draw attention to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Protesters spotted in white jumpsuits with red paint splashes and scaled barricades along Sixth Avenue, entered the area around 49th Street with the intention of disrupting the annual parade.

They displayed signs and protest messages on their clothes and chanted “Free Palestine! From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” a phrase considered by some to be anti-Semitic. Additionally, protesters displayed the words “genocide,” “capitalism,” and “colonialism,” along with the statement “Liberation for Palestine and the Planet.”

As seen in a clip posted on social media, law enforcement officials quickly responded to the disruption, arresting protesters who were disrupting the flow of activities at the event.

Uniformed police also removed balloons and the entire procession amid arrests. Although an unspecified number of arrests have been made, it remains to be seen whether the protesters will be prosecuted for their actions. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden stated in his Thanksgiving speech:

“We have to remind ourselves how lucky we are to live in the greatest country on earth. Today is about coming together, giving thanks for the country we call home. And thanks to all of our firefighters, police officers, first responders and soldiers, some of whom are stationed overseas.”
