The 54-year-old actor has long struggled with addiction, including when he was filming the popular television show. After he got clean, he opened up about that time in his life, noting how unfair it was that he struggled with addiction while the rest of his cast mates didn’t.

“You know, the thing that always makes me cry, and I hope I’m not crying here.. is that it’s not fair,” Perry said in an interview at the time. “No, it’s not fair that I have to go through this disease while the other five don’t,” he continued. “They got everything I got. But I had to fight this and still have to fight this.”

When Perry released her memoir, she opened up and let down her walls about her addiction.

“[I was] at my highest point on ‘Friends’, the highest point of my career, an iconic moment on that iconic show,” the actor said while promoting his memoir last year. “When you’re a drug addict, everything is math. I don’t do it to feel high or to feel good. I’m definitely not a party person; I just want to sit on my couch, take five Vicodin, and watch a movie. That was heaven for me. It’s not anymore.”

Perry went on to say he had been clean for 18 months in that time, noting, “I probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober.”

The actor also admitted to not being able to watch the show again due to his addiction. “[I] can’t watch the show because I’m so thin,” she admitted. “Because I can drink, opiates, drink, cocaine. I can distinguish season after season by the way I look. That’s why I don’t want to watch it because that’s what I see.”
