Perry revealed in her memoir that she began courting Roberts after “Friends” producers asked her to contact him. He had previously been approached to appear in a sitcom; however, the actress revealed that she would only do so if her character had a storyline with Chandler Perry.
“I sent her three dozen red roses, and the card read, ‘The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you doing the show is that I finally have an excuse to send you flowers,'” The Times revealed. “Not only did Julia agree to do the show, but she also sent me a gift — bagels, lots and lots of bagels.”
Perry said she wooed Roberts for three months after the actress finally agreed to make a guest appearance on “Friends.” The Oscar winner had a film project in France at the time, so the former couple communicated by fax. They officially started dating before filming for the episode began.

Later in the memoir, Perry recalls the two exchanging messages “three or four times a day” by fax, and he would wait by her machine each time for her letter.
The actor wrote, “I’m so excited that some nights I’ll find myself at some party sharing a flirtatious exchange with an attractive woman and cutting the conversation short, so I can race home and see if a new fax has arrived. Nine out of ten , one has.”
Despite the passion at the beginning of the relationship, Perry ended things with Roberts just two months after the actress made her guest appearance on the show. She claims dating him is “too much” for her, and she’s always worried she’ll break up with him soon.
“Dating Julia Roberts was too much for me. I was always sure that he would break up with me. Why doesn’t he want to? I am not enough; I can never have enough; I was broken, bent, unloved,” Perry admitted DailyMail. “So instead of facing the inevitable agony of losing her, I parted ways with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts.”

He explained that at the time, he was “sweating and twitching” and surrounded by other patients at the facility. “While he was making his speech,” Perry recalled. “Voices rose in the recovery room, urgent, sad, tender, angry, pleading, full of longing and tears. I’m joking. ‘I’ll take you back,’ I said. ‘I’ll take you back.’”
The actor revealed that the entire room burst into laughter after his comment. “This is real life now,” he continued. “Those people on TV are no longer my people. No, the person I lay in front of, shivering, covered in blankets, is who I am now.”

Roberts isn’t the only “Friends” actress Perry has romantic feelings for. In his memoirs, the actor revealed that he was smitten by Aniston when they met; however, his feelings were not reciprocated. The duo met each other three years before starring in “Friends” through mutual friends.
According to Perry, at the time, he got two acting jobs in one day and called Aniston and told her. He said, “’You are the first person I want to tell this to.’ Bad idea. I could feel the ice forming over the phone.”
The actress revealed that the “We’re the Millers” cast may have thought she liked him too much, and he made the worst of the issue by asking her out. “He declined (which made it difficult to go out with her) but said he wanted to be friends with me,” Perry said.
