Matthew Perry’s Autopsy Report: Abusing Ketamine Outside Of Therapy?

Ketamine was found in Matthew Perry’s system, which ultimately caused his death, but investigators apparently say he may have abused the substance.

According to Perry’s autopsy report, the ‘Friends’ star was using ketamine therapy at the time, but her last treatment was known more than a week before she died. The investor concluded “the exact method of ingestion of the drug present in his system is” unknown.

Ketamine is an isolated anesthetic drug, also known as a psychedelic drug, that can be used in Ketamine therapy, a treatment used by many celebrities to manage mental health conditions, such as treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. (PTSD).

Perry used ketamine therapy to treat anxiety and depression, but his last known treatment was 1.5 weeks before his death. Ketamine in his system at the time of death was unlikely from the infusion therapy because ketamine’s half-life is three to four hours — plus there were no visible needle marks on Perry’s body.

According to his autopsy report, obtained by The Blast, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner (DME) determined the cause of death of 54-year-old actor Matthew Langford Perry as acute effects of Ketamine.

Interestingly, there was a small amount of ketamine detected in the stomach contents. If Perry had injected ketamine, or used it as a nasal spray, as they do in ketamine therapy, traces of the drug would have been found in his blood system or in his naval cavity, but since it was found in his stomach, it is more likely that Perry took the drug by mouth in the form pill — although it’s important to note that the autopsy report states that “the exact method of ingestion in Mr. Perry’s case is unknown.”

It’s unclear whether Perry took pills or a nasal spray, but the report said there were no needle marks where it would have been injected.

The manner of death was an accident.

Last month, police responded to a 911 call to assist with a possible “water rescue” at Matthew Perry’s Pacific Palisades home. When they arrived, they found the 54-year-old “Friends” actor in his heated pool, face down, unresponsive.

Prescription anti-depressants and prescription anti-anxiety medications were reportedly found at Matthew Perry’s home, but no pills or loose prescriptions were found in the pool area, according to documents.

Perry “history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/emphysema, diabetes; past drug use — reported clean for 19 months; heavy tobacco user for years but not currently smoking; on ketamine infusion therapy with latest therapy reported one and a half weeks prior death,” the document states.

Ketamine is approved for use in high doses as an anesthetic in the operating room. Although ketamine has been approved by the FDA and approved for use as a general anesthetic since the 1970s, it can be abused as a recreational drug.

Lower doses of ketamine are not approved by the FDA, and the injection is used “off-label” to treat depression, pain and other mental health/substance use disorders.

Many celebrities, including Elon Musk, Sharon Osbourne, and Lamar Odom, have used the therapy to help with mental health and struggles with addiction.
