A statement accompanying the foundation’s announcement read: “In the spirit of Matthew Perry’s ongoing commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction, We are embarking on a journey to honor his legacy by establishing the Matthew Perry Foundation, guided by his own words and experiences, and fueled by his passion to make a difference in as many lives as possible.”

Currently, The Matthew Perry Foundation, which operates as a donor advised fund under the sponsorship and management of the National Philanthropic Trust, offers only donation options.

While promoting her book, the “Fools Rush In” star revealed to The New York Times that he’s been sober for 18 months and “probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober.” She is deeply committed to maintaining her sobriety and aspires to help others who face similar struggles.

Perry also spoke about her legacy and expressed her wish to be remembered for helping others rather than her acting career, stating: “When I die, I don’t want ‘Friends’ to be the first thing mentioned — I want helping other people to be the first thing mentioned. And I will live the rest of my life proving it.”

He added: “Addiction is too strong for anyone to defeat. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it.”

On October 28, Perry was found dead in a jacuzzi at her Los Angeles home after her assistant returned from work and immediately called 911, notifying Perry’s mother and siblings.

Although investigators suspect that the actor drowned, the official cause of death has not yet been announced; however, no illegal substances were found at the scene, but prescription drugs, including anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs, were confiscated.

In an interview on Today“Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman revealed that she recently spoke with Perry, and she seemed “in a really good place.”

“He looks better than I’ve seen him in a while,” he shared. “I was very excited to see it. He was emotionally in a good place. He looks good. He quit smoking. Yes, he is aware. He’s learned a lot along the way and what he’s learned more than anything is that he wants to help other addicts, and it gives him purpose.”

A day before the hot tub broadcast, the Emmy-winning actress uploaded a video of the moon with the caption, “Do you understand what I’m trying to tell you? – I’m Mattman.” In another post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Let’s make stigma a stigma. -I’m Mattman #mentalhealth.”

However, sources revealed to People magazine that Perry’s recent “Mattman” broadcast is tied to an idea he’s developing for a series, and “he’s having fun.”
