Matthew Perry’s ex-girlfriend has spoken out about the actor’s shocking death. Kayti Edwards, who dated Perry in 2006, claimed that the actor may have relapsed before his death.
Edwards questioned reports of Perry’s death, saying the actor’s social media posts and use of his alter ego “Mattman” were signs he was “unconscious.”
Perry openly discussed her struggles with substance abuse and addiction in her memoir, which was released last year. Since his death, a foundation has been launched in his honor to help those suffering from addiction.

In a recent interview, Edwards, who is the grandson of actress Julie Andrews, revealed he doesn’t believe Perry drowned, noting that the “Friends” star likely had a relapse, hence his death.
“I can’t believe he drowned in his jacuzzi, that’s not right,” Edwards said Sun. “I know Matthew and I know he won’t just drown. I think he may have taken the pill in the previous week.”
He continued, “They said there were no prescription painkillers at the scene, which doesn’t surprise me, because he didn’t leave any drugs lying around. He’s paranoid and will take everything, so there’s no evidence, and then go out for more when he’s ready.”
Perry was very open about his substance abuse in the past but appeared to be in recovery before his death. People who met the star also noted that he is calm and very optimistic about life.

Speaking more about Perry’s passing, Edwards told the news outlet that the “Fools Rush In” star’s final post on social media was a sign that she was relapsed and high before she died.
Perry had made several cryptic posts on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, in the days leading up to her death. The post included references to Batman and the use of his alter ego name, “Mattman.”
In her last post on Instagram, she referred to her alter ego in a message attached to a photo of herself currently cooling off in a hot tub against a blue night sky.
His ex-girlfriend believes this action is a red flag and claims that the actor only talks about “Mattman” when he is no longer “conscious”.
“The Mattman thing wasn’t something he did when he was sober. Mattman would come out when he was unconscious and he felt like he was invincible,” Edwards said.
“I was around when he was getting high, even though I didn’t get high with him, and when I would say maybe he needs to cool it down a little bit with drugs, he would say, ‘No, I’m Mattman,'” the mother of four added.

Edwards notes in a chat with him Sun that Perry has a tendency to go into the water whenever he is high. He also claimed that the actor was once caught high and naked in his neighbor’s swimming pool.
“Once, his neighbor in the Hollywood Hills found Matthew naked and high in his swimming pool. I had to go there and take him out of his neighbor’s pool. He had a problem with water when he was on drugs,” Edwards claimed.
She added, “He always wants to be in the pool or the jacuzzi.”
Edwards, who reportedly last spoke to Perry last year after the release of her memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and Big Awful Things,” says the star is “always alone” when he gets high.
As we previously reported, Perry was found dead in his home after playing a game of pickles for two hours. He had sent his assistant on an errand, and upon returning, they found him unresponsive in his hot tub.

Edwards went on to talk about how he and Perry first met at his grandfather, the director of the original “Pink Panther,” Blake Edwards’ house. Six months after that meeting, they ran into each other again at an AA meeting, after which they started dating in 2006.
He said his drug use at the time scared him, and he would always “come home and pray, ‘Please don’t let him die.'”
Edwards stated that what hurts him the most is that he never got a chance to say goodbye to his friend. He said, “That’s what killed me the most, I didn’t get to say goodbye.”
Perry was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. His funeral was attended by family members and “Friends” co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Courteney Cox.
