Friends of Matthew Perry have spoken out, claiming the “Friends” star was “100% conscious” when he died, despite speculation that the 54-year-old had relapsed.
As we previously reported, police responded to a 911 call to assist with a possible ‘water rescue’ at the Pacific Palisades home of Matthew Perry on Saturday. When first responders arrived, they reportedly found the 54-year-old “Friends” actress in her hot tub, unresponsive.
Perry is believed to have drowned, but an autopsy and toxicology report will answer more questions about the exact cause of her death. Prescription anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs were reportedly found at Matthew Perry’s home following his tragic death, although sources say no illegal narcotics were found at the scene.

The 54-year-old actress has struggled with addiction for a long time, though it wasn’t until she released her memoir that she opened up and let down her walls about that time in her life.
Last year, he stated that he had been clean for 18 months during that time, in fact, spending “$9 million or something trying to get sober.” After coming out with his addiction, he vowed to help others who were struggling.
After Perry was found unresponsive at her home last weekend, many began to speculate that the “Friends” actress had relapsed or had some sort of illegal drug in her system. Perry’s close friends say otherwise.
“He was 100 percent conscious when he died,” Matthew Perry’s close friend, Athena Crosby, told Fox News Digital.
“I mean, I don’t know what he’s really thinking or feeling. I can only share my experience,” added Crosby. “And, of course, he was his own person that he may have said, done, or thought things in the days he passed that I may never have known.”

Just a day before he passed, Crosby was spotted having lunch with the “Friends” star at the Bel-Air Hotel.
“In the interactions I had with him, he was very positive, calm, acting normal, speaking well, giving me no impression that he was under drugs or alcohol of any kind,” he shared. “So I think people are speculating that this is a recurring situation. I just want to defend it and say that it’s not.”
“I now remember all the details about it just because it was so tragic. And I was kind of thinking like, ‘OK, is there anything that I, I think, should have noticed or is there anything that stuck out to me?’ And honestly, no, there isn’t,” he added. “He’s so normal. He ordered a cheeseburger and had a Diet Coke and it was just a normal day like any other day.”
Crosby was among the last people to see Perry alive.

Days after his death, Crosby took to social media to break his silence about his friend’s loss.
“I’m not going to talk about this but what I will say is that I had the honor of knowing Matthew personally,” she wrote on her Instagram Story yesterday, alongside a black-and-white photo of Perry.
“I am very saddened by his death but feel that it is a lack of appetite to talk about it publicly as the focus should not be on me but rather on him and his legacy. He was a very private person and I have always respected him in our friendship. “
