Mayim Bialik No Longer The Host Of ‘Jeopardy!’

Last year, Sony announced that both actress Mayim Bialik and trivia legend Ken Jennings would co-host the new “Jeopardy!” following the death of late host Alex Trebek in November 2020.

However, on Friday night, “The Big Bang Theory” alum announced that he will no longer host the long-running trivia game show.

On Friday night, the season 1 host of “Celebrity Jeopardy!” announced that he was out as host of “Jeopardy!” Since Ken Jennings hosted season 2, which is currently airing, it seems doubtful that he will return to host the spin-off show either.

“When the holiday break started in Hollywood, I had some Jeopardy! news, she wrote in the caption of a brief Instagram post. “Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy!”

“I am so honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Jeopardy! family,” he continued. “To all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers. staff and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you.”

Comments on posts have been disabled. “Jeopardy!” social media accounts took to Instagram moments later to make their own statement about his departure.

“Mayim Bialik has announced she will no longer host the syndicated version of Jeopardy!” write them in a brief Instagram statement. “We decided to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for the syndicated Jeopardy!. We are truly grateful for all of Mayim’s contributions to Jeopardy!, and we look forward to continuing to work with her on primetime specials.”

Fans are calling her departure ‘The right move’ for the show

Shortly after Mayim posted her statement to Instagram, “Jeopardy!” fans use various social media platforms, including Reddit, to voice their opinions.

“I’m not an evangelical Anti-Mayim type like some people, but that being said, I’m happy with this news. Mayim is enough, but she never looks comfortable on stage,” wrote user spmahn. “Everyone has their quirks that might annoy people, but Mayim seems to have a bunch of them. Most importantly, though, this will bring stability and consistency to a show that has desperately needed it since Alex’s death. Ken deserves the job, and I glad it’s his now.”

“I’ve never been a hater, but a good one. Ken has been far and away the best choice since day 1. This is the right move for the show,” another user agreed, while a third fan added, “It’s so crazy to me that it took Sony peeps so long to figure out that he’s the one meant to do.”

“This is definitely good news. This wasn’t work for him, and Ken was always the heir. Ken’s style is cohesive, and his knowledge is second only to James, and no one else. He has personality, authority, skill, and passion,” wrote user Juunlar. “It shouldn’t be any other way.”

Mayim Bialik Explains Why She Will Not Compete On ‘Jeopardy!’

'Big Bang Theory' Star Mayim Bialik Co-Host Jeopardy!MEGA

In an interview with Bill Maher on his podcast Random Club, the “Call Me Kar” star said that she “would cry” if she had to compete on “Jeopardy!” even though he has been hosting it for over two years. “There’s a rhythm that winners go through – there’s a huge psychological component,” Mayim said earlier this year. “If you get something wrong, it can be debilitating. I’m going to cry, I think.

The “Blossom” child star also clarified that she did not participate in the writer’s room when the questions were asked. “People ask if I know all that stuff, and I’m like, ‘no.’ No,” he said. “Answering something like that under pressure with a timer is just not going to happen for me. It’s hard!”

He went on to say that “Jeopardy!” players who perform well in the show usually have general knowledge in various fields, while their expertise is more specific. “The knowledge I have is not necessarily Jeopardy knowledge. I’m trained in science, and I’m a crossword puzzle person,” he continued. He explained that his familiarity with certain subjects such as “Hebrew and Jewish studies” would allow him to succeed in the field, but suggested that “British poets of the 18th century” were examples of topics he would tackle.

So, even though she’s no longer hosting, it looks like she’s not eager to compete on “Celebrity Jeopardy!” and see what the experience is like on the other side of the podium.
