Mayor Adams’ legal defense fund has raised about $500,000: insider

Mayor Adams’ legal defense fund has raised about $500,000, an insider close to the effort said.

Adams has been under a cloud since the FBI raided the home of his top fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, in November.

A federal investigation is reportedly focused on whether the Adams 2021 campaign improperly worked with the Turkish government to funnel cash to its mayoral bid.

Rumors of an indictment have been swirling for weeks, but so far nothing has come of it.

Legal defense fund donors, whose names are expected to be revealed in mid-January, are limited to a maximum contribution of just $5,000.

Notable donors and boosters to date include former Adams Chief of Staff Frank Carone; former Governor David Paterson; longtime head of the New York NAACP chapter, Hazel Dukes; head of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, Assemblyman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn; Queens state Sen. Leroy Comrie (D-Queens), and Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar (D-Queens).

The $500,000 figure puts Adams on target for his stated goal of having half a million in place heading into 2024.

Former Mayor de Blasio launched a similar effort to settle a $300,000 legal bill after he faced questions in a federal and state pay-to-play investigation in 2017.

“I was with Adams a few days ago. He thought he was fine. He thinks he’s going to go down as the greatest mayor in New York City history,” said a confidant.
