House Speaker Kevin McCarthy issued a profane challenge to critics from his own caucus to oust him Thursday, saying disgruntled members should go ahead and “file an af–raja motion” to replace him.
“If you want to file a motion to vacate, then file an af-king motion,” McCarthy (R-Calif.), 58, told GOP lawmakers during a closed-door meeting, Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) told to journalist after right-wing MPs threatened to fire the speaker for supporting a new spending package that would avoid a partial government shutdown.
House Republicans have gathered to discuss the newly approved impeachment inquiry into President Biden, as well as plans to pass a stopgap bill to keep the government fully funded before the September 30 deadline.
“Sounds like @SpeakerMcCarthy has a normal one – not confusing at all,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said to X, formerly known as Twitter. “The truth is Kevin is in control of his own destiny.
Conservatives added that “instead of condemning emotionally,” the speaker of the House should have agreed to approve “[s]single-subject spending bill” instead of one giant legislative package, holding a vote on term limits and passing a balanced budget, releasing full security video footage of January 6, 2021, the Capitol riots and the subpoena of Hunter Biden’s eldest son.
“Unite, Kevin!” Gaetz added.

McCarthy authorized three Republican Party committee heads to launch a formal impeachment inquiry against the president on Tuesday over his alleged involvement in his son’s business dealings.
The House Speaker said Biden’s actions amounted to “abuse of power, obstruction and corruption,” as investigators have uncovered evidence of the president’s Justice Department meddling in the investigation of Hunter and the first family who benefited from overseas influence peddling.
Biden, 80, said late Wednesday at a campaign event that House Republicans “want to shut down the government” with their impeachment push.

Over the weekend, Gaetz questioned whether some Democrats would be willing to help him get rid of McCarthy.
“Hi, Eric. If I make a motion to remove Kevin, how is that possible? [sic] democrat vote can i expect? Asking for a friend…,” he asked Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) on X.
On Wednesday, McCarthy accused the Florida Republican of “collaborating” with Swalwell to undermine him.

“Matt works with Eric Swalwell, but let me be clear,” McCarthy told CNN. “Matt is disappointed with the ethics complaint. I don’t care what they threaten me with. I will not interfere in an independent committee like Ethics, and I will not put Swalwell back on the Intel Committee. So, they can do whatever they want.”
The House Ethics Committee is investigating Gaetz on allegations of sexual misconduct, illegal drug use, sharing inappropriate images on the House floor, misuse of state identification records, improper use of campaign funds, bribery and receiving unauthorized gifts.
Gaetz has denied that the investigation had anything to do with his actions.

“I’m the most investigated person in all of Congress, and there you see Kevin McCarthy lying like a dead dog because I never asked him to intervene in any ethics matter,” Gaetz told MSNBC, calling the speaker’s statement “an outright lie despicable. from a sad, sad man who lied to hold power.”
Swalwell’s own ethics investigation ended in May, with no action taken by the committee over his suspected relationship with Chinese spy Christine Fang.
McCarthy has already fired Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee over the allegations, saying he threatens “the national security and surveillance mission — ultimately making our country less safe.”
