Jayden Maiava’s parents, William and Jerushua Maiava, are native Hawaiians. The couple has eight children, one of whom is the most sought-after college quarterback in the country. Jayden grabbed the opportunity with both hands when it presented itself. He began the season as Doug Brumfield’s backup quarterback at UNLV. But, as soon as Brumfield was defeated by Vanderbilt, Maiva took advantage of the situation.

He stepped into the starting lineup and guided the team to its first Mountain West Conference championship game. The quarterback had 2,626 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and six interceptions during the regular season. Maiava was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year and has promised Rebel fans that he will be back in 2024. Maiava’s Career Journey So Far

Jayden Maiava started his football career in Hawaii, but it was in Las Vegas that he began to gain attention. Sierra Vista High School is where he started his freshman year of high school. In 2019, he returned to Hawaii to play for Kaimuki High School, where he threw for 3,317 yards and 41 touchdowns. Jayden moved back to Las Vegas for his senior year of high school and enrolled at Liberty High School.

He led the team to the state championship, throwing for 2,027 yards and 24 touchdowns. Maiava was named to the all-league first team during his tenure with the Liberty. The junior revealed his commitment to UNLV in 2021. Because of the coaching staff, the player chose UNLV over Auburn, Louisville and Tennessee. He said that the coaching staff and his parents always checked on him. Marcus Arroyo, the head coach at UNLV, got involved in the recruiting process, called Maiava and offered him a scholarship. Both parties have benefited from the change.
