After her son Riley, 2, was born, the “Mommy” singer said she lost weight the “healthy way,” and it sparked a feeling of “unstoppability.”

“I did it the healthy way, the long way, the one-pound-a-week way. And it’s a proud accomplishment that I didn’t think I could do,” Trainor told PEOPLE. “And now going through the C-section and going through that, just checking the goal, ‘What else can I achieve?’ It makes you feel unstoppable. And you’re like, ‘There’s nothing I can’t do.'”

Now that she’s pregnant with her second baby, she says her body is different than the first time, and it’s been a tough adjustment to see her body change after her weight loss. But despite the change, she knew it was necessary for her growing baby.

“That’s emotionally crippling, trying to go from like, ‘Oh, I’m down to the healthiest I’ve ever been, but I know I’m going to be big again,'” she explained. “And I had to keep reminding myself, ‘It’s healthy for the baby. I need to be big for the baby. And I have done it once. I can do it again.’”

Trainor went through a few moments of “mini-frenzy,” thinking it was “not fair” that she “had to stretch again.”

“’What if I get a new stretch mark at this stretch?’ That cycle is still alive in my brain,” he said.

“And my therapist was great at showing me visually, ‘Your brain has been wired this way your whole life. And at 29, you have to learn how to rewire it, which is not an easy task. So, it’s something that you work on every day.’ And I was like, oh, right.”

The intern’s husband, actor Daryl Sabara, 30, is helping her on her healthy body image journey. TikTok has also helped him in his journey.

“Body image has always been there, but I’m learning to rewire my brain,” she explains. “And I saw this girl on TikTok sobbing in her car and saying, ‘I’m 30 years old, and I finally love myself completely, all of me, my body, who I am,’ while sobbing. And he said, ‘I want you to know that you can love yourself too one day. It will happen.’ And I was like, ‘I love TikTok.'”

TikTok helped Trainor see why it’s important to be transparent about body image. She says she sees a lot of people being honest about everyone’s body being different.

“You can see a tall girl in a bikini, showing off her 185-pound body or something,” he said. “And I was like, ‘Wow. It’s interesting how different people’s weight is.’ A number is just a number. Whatever makes you feel the healthiest is where you should be.”
