Melissa McCarthy has opened up about her parenting style!
In a new interview, the “Identity Thief” star, who has two children, has broken down how she raised her kids with a hands-on approach. She shares the children — daughters Vivian and Georgette — with her husband of nearly 18 years, Ben Falcone.

McCarthy has proven that she is not the fun character she portrays in various Hollywood movies while raising her two teenage daughters. She spilled the tea during her latest session with PEOPLE for the outlet’s weekly cover story. In the words of the 52-year-old actress:
“I was really like, ‘What are you doing? Do you want to finish your homework?’ Ben was more like, ‘Let them figure it out.’ I’m like, ‘Or I can empty their school bags and sort all their pencils.’ I call it helpful. Others might say, ‘You’re interfering.'”

The “Life of the Party” star added that even though she knows her daughters “aren’t babies anymore,” she wouldn’t hesitate to “put them in a BabyBjörn” and take them everywhere if she could.
He later admitted that his children are so used to seeing him being stern that they have a nickname for him whenever his fun side comes out. She got the nickname — “Midway Mom” — when she bought the teenager a wiener dog after initially shutting down the idea. As he recalled:
“We had two dogs, and they all wanted a third. And I said, ‘Absolutely not. We’re not doing this. It’s crazy work. We already have two dogs.’ And all of a sudden I called the girls over, and I was like, ‘Guess who got the wiener dog?’ And they were like, ‘Midway Mom!’”
The term was coined when the family was passing through Midway Airport in Chicago, returning from visiting McCarthy’s parents. While there, the lead-up to “The Heat” is more pleasant than usual, allowing Vivian and Georgette to get whatever they want.
At one point, he asked if they wanted a “comfort beer,” and their response was, “Great Mid-Mother.” Apart from occasionally fulfilling their wishes, the Primetime Emmy Award winner also had to deal with the awkwardness of educating them sexually.
The Blast reported last October “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” the actress talked about her experience the first time she tried to have sex with Vivian. Her awkward moment happened when the mother-daughter duo were picking up dog poop in their backyard.
What McCarthy thought was a “wonderful time” to engage in conversation quickly turned into chaos when the teenager became embarrassed when her mother brought it up. Despite the backlash, the “Gilmore Girls” alum continued, as she detailed:
“I was like, ‘There’s a different body part…uh.’ I was just like, ‘Let me be awkward and go through with it.'”

With the launch of her latest role as Ursula in the upcoming live-action film, “The Little Mermaid,” a closer look, McCarthy has revealed the trade secrets she has going for her. The comedian revealed earlier this month that her drag queen persona influenced how she portrayed the infamous villain.
“There is a drag queen living inside of me. I was always on the verge of going full-time with her,” he said before praising Ursula as “everything” he wanted her “character to be.” He added:
“To keep the humor and the sadness and the angst to Ursula is everything I want in a character — and frankly, everything I want in a drag queen.”
Elaborating on the sea witch, the Southern Illinois University graduate added, “That’s a woman who’s seen it, been in it, dug her way out. All my references were terrible, but I kept thinking, ‘This woman has a lot of Pall Mall.’”
As reported by The Blast, the fashion designer previously admitted that singing is one of the “scariest” things about Ursula. So, it’s kind of lucky that she has a drag queen persona to fall back on when it counts.
