Metallica Will Release ’72 Seasons’ In April 2023!
Metallica’s website proudly boasts their big news and features the cover photo of “72 Seasons”!
The LP’s first single, “Lux Aeterna,” is one of 12 songs on the record that will be released on April 14, 2023! The album’s monstrous runtime clocks in at over an hour, at 77 minutes, too!
Metallica also revealed the music video for “Lux Aeterna” is available on their YouTube channel now.
The band’s excitement for the record was palpable; Metallica gave fans some insight into the record on their website.
According to site details on the album, Hetfield and Lars Ulrich helmed the record’s production along with Greg Fidelman.
The concept of the album was very important to Hetfield. “72 Seasons” examines the idea of growing up and experiencing the various emotions we all collectively feel during our crucial teenage years. Those experiences end up having a huge impact, shaping who we become as adults in the future.
“72 Seasons. The first 18 years of our lives form our true or false selves,” explained Hetfield via Variety, “The concept that we are told ‘who we are’ by our parents. Dove possibilities about our personality types,” he continued, “I think the most interesting part of this is the ongoing study of those core beliefs and how they affect our perception of the world today. Most of our adult experiences are reenactments or reactions to those childhood experiences. Prisoner of childhood or breaking free from the bonds we carry,” Hetfield concluded.

The tour will also last for two years!
The band detailed that if fans “buy a two-day ticket, and you’ll never see the same song twice for a total of 3o songs spanning 40+ years of being lucky enough to play music.”
Metallica is also very careful in trying to ensure that every show is on a Friday or Saturday; the band revealed “most shows” will be on Friday and Saturday for maximum partying!
The tour will start on April 27, 2023 in the Netherlands, and end on September 29, 2024 with the second of two dates in Mexico!
