Mike Fleiss Steps Away From The ‘Bachelor’ Franchise After Two Decades

‘The Bachelor’ creator, Mike Fleiss, is stepping away from the award-winning franchise.

Fleiss has been with the franchise from the beginning. The first installment of the reality TV dating dynasty, “The Bachelor,” premiered in 2002. The series aired its 27th season finale on Monday, March 27. Zach Shallcross’ ‘Bachelor’ season ended with an engagement to his predecessor Kaity Biggar.

Fleiss, 58, released a statement announcing his departure from the franchise on Tuesday.

Fleiss shared his statement with Variety.

“First of all, congratulations to Zach and Kaity,” he said. “I wish them long life and happiness together. I want to thank WBTV and ABC for 21 incredible years. They have found the perfect creative team for me to entrust the ‘Bachelor’ franchise and keep this lightning in a thick bottle and move forward. Let the journey continue,” he concluded his statement. The outlet also reported Fleiss was allegedly not involved with the “day-to-day process” for a decade; an unknown source has shared this information and is said to be closely involved with the franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed three executive producers and a showrunner have already been hired to replace Fleiss. According to the outlet, they are Jason Ehrlich, Claire Freeland, and Bennett Graebner.

Fleiss regularly retweets content about the franchise on his Twitter account. He has not tweeted any additional tweets as of this writing.

‘The Bachelor’ head Kaitlyn Bristowe previously called Fleiss Out

“The Bachelorette” alumna and current host of the “Off The Vine” podcast Kaitlyn Bristowe spoke out against Fleiss in 2019.

According to our report written at the time, Bristowe revealed the franchise creator allegedly barred her from competing on the rival ABC show, “Dancing With The Stars.” ‘DWTS’ is currently streaming on Disney+.

Bristowe provided more details in an interview on “Podcast Talkhouse.”

He told host Nikki Glaser, “They won’t let me [go on the show] ever. I’m going to tell you exactly why I can’t go on ‘Dancing With The Stars’. Anyone who listens to this podcast knows why I can’t go on ‘Dancing With The Stars’. And it’s because, and I’ll say this with a microphone in my hand and a smile on my face, that Mike Fleiss is a s**t. He’s the creator of ‘The Bachelor’ and he hates women,” Bristowe concluded. Bristowe would eventually win the 29th season of the competition, along with Artem Chigvintsev. Fellow ‘Bachelor’ alum Gabby Windey recently finished second during season 31.

The two also came face to face during a 2017 Twitter exchange.

A Twitter user tagged Bristowe in a tweet asking why no Bachelor Nation members were involved in the franchise at the time.

Bristowe responded by tweeting the quote, writing, “Actually, I was offered, had a contract & Mike Fleiss told me I wasn’t allowed. He said he didn’t want people to want fame after the show [thinking emoji].

Fleiss later assured Bristowe that he had “full support” to appear on the show. He would reply, “Thank you I will take advantage of the opportunity 2 years. then. I wonder what changed your mind? ?”

Bristowe would later issue a statement regarding ‘Bachelor’ Hannah Brown’s involvement in the show and would address her past statements about why female leads have historically not been given the same opportunities as their male ‘Bachelor’ counterparts.

“I’ve talked in the past about how ‘The Bachelor’ doesn’t get the same amount of love as ‘The Bachelor’ when it comes to opportunities to compete in the ballroom. The fact that it’s happening again for a female franchise lead is long overdue. I’ll be watching, glass of wine in hand, cheering him on,” he said.

Bristowe also claimed in a “Talkhouse Podcast” interview that Fleiss had been “in hot water” over her domestic violence investigation in 2019, and that the incident had been the catalyst for her allegedly giving Brown the ‘green light’ to compete on ‘DWTS. ‘

“…the only reason why he let Hannah go on this season of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ is because- well, I wish I had something to do with it, I said something- but because she’s in hot water because there’s some **t came out on him abusing his wife. So he was like, ‘Look at me, I like women’. As long as he’s in power at ABC, I’ll never be on the show,” Bristowe concluded.

The next season of “The Bachelorette,” which features ‘Bachelor’ season 27 alumna Charity Lawson as the lead, will premiere on June 26.
