During a recent interview with Sun, Miley Cyrus opened up about needing therapy to recover from the criticism she faced as a child star. She rose to fame in 2006, playing the role of Hannah Montana in the same Disney Channel sitcom. The show follows an ordinary girl who lives in Malibu and hides her double life as a famous pop star. It lasted from 2006 to 2011.
At the time, Cyrus was just 13 years old and says her early fame affected her life in several ways. The “Angels Like You” singer said getting therapy helped her deal with “painful memories” and brought her to a “good place” in her life.
He said, per Daily Mail, “When I look back at the criticism I received as a child, it’s only in recent years that I understand how wrong it was. I believe in therapy to help recover painful memories, and I’m in a good place – but the reality is, it shouldn’t have happened!”

During the interview, Cyrus also discussed how she changed her image from child star to wild girl. At the 2013 VMAs, the “Party in the USA” singer had a very sexual and controversial performance with Robin Thicke.
That same day, Cyrus released the music video for her song “Wrecking Ball,” which features her naked and swinging on an absolute wrecking ball. The song, video and performance had the desired effect of dropping the singer’s child star image. She reflected on the career move and said it was done to prove she had an image beyond Hannah Montana.
Cyrus said, “I’m not going to delete any part of my story or transition — I always think interesting lives make for interesting storytelling.” She also talked about how being honest with her fans about her struggles with depression helped her journey.
He added, “That gives me real purpose, a reason to get up in the morning. When you’re open and honest, it becomes a part of who you are – and organically, that’s reflected in your songwriting.”

During his conversation with Sun, Cyrus was asked to advise newcomers in the showbiz industry. The “Flowers” singer shared that they can’t find their name online and emphasized the dangers of the internet being underestimated.
He said, “Don’t Google yourself – I’m serious, don’t Google yourself! People are ready to talk about the dangers of drink and drugs for people in the industry – but there are not enough warnings about the internet. It can be a really toxic place!”

In a recent interview with Vogue, Cyrus contemplated being the maid of honor for her mother, Tish Cyrus’ wedding to “Prison Break” actor Dominic Purcell. The “Last Song” actress said that walking Tish down the aisle was beautiful for her.
He said, “To see my mother happy and in love was very emotional for me. Dom and my mother shared the sweetest and most genuine love. It was almost like the first time, which was perfect for my mother, who is young at heart.”
Cyrus also talked about how Purcell had made his mother so happy because he was “getting prettier”. The singer supported the new couple until he hosted the wedding at his home in Malibu.
While talking about Tish walking down the aisle, Miley said, “To stand next to my mom and give it to Dom is a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
