While on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” earlier this week, the actress told the story of the time she went out to dinner with BJ Novak’s close friend and a stranger broke into Novak’s car.

The two friends were on their way to dinner in Los Angeles while Kaling, 43, was more than eight months pregnant with their daughter, when they came across a man acting suspiciously. “He parked the car and we got out of the car, I noticed some kind of weird guy, staring at us from the parking meter,” the “Never Have I Ever” creator told Kimmel. “When we go out, he’s like, ‘Hey, love you guys on ‘The Office'”
Kaling said the two then walked to the restaurant but found it closed and decided to walk back to the car. “And then we walked back to the car, and when we walked back to the car – all we thought was the car – we were like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s not that, because there’s someone sitting in the driver’s seat,’ and we kept walking, ” he said.
They realize they’ve gone too far, and turn back to his car, which Kaling says is “fancy” and locks automatically. “We got back to the car and the guy we were talking to with the meter got into BJ’s car, sat in the driver’s seat and opened BJ’s laptop and was on BJ’s laptop,” the actress said. “Which is very strange – he’s not trying to steal his stuff.”

Two Friends Meet Men In BJ Novak’s Car
The two decided to confront the man in Novak’s car. Despite being pregnant, Kaling decided to block the driver’s side door so she couldn’t escape the situation. “My sense of justice is greater than my lust for life,” said Kaling. “And then BJ went over to them, and was like, ‘What are you taking?’ The man kept looking towards the door to try to get out. I was sitting there like, ‘You’re not going anywhere.’ Finally, BJ got his laptop back and all his stuff and he nodded to me, like, ‘You can open the door and let him out.’”
Then what Kaling called the “weirdest” part of the story happened. As the man got out of the car, he said, “You have to be careful. Anyone can get into your car.” Kaling then added with a laugh, “It’s as if all this has turned out like this, a ruse, he has planned to teach us a valuable lesson. By the way, it has taught us that. And then he kind of wandered off.”
