TikTok creator blink1katie2__, who we’ll call Katie for the rest of this story, woke up and chose CHAOS! And what a fun mess he picked!

In a TikTok video he shared two days ago, he asked for some “advice” and the events since then will blow your mind.

“Does anyone have any advice on how to start a successful rumor because I want to start a rumor that they’re going to replace Thomas Jefferson’s face with Taylor Swift’s face on Mount Rushmore to boost the economy in South Dakota,” he asked. “And I want it to go on Fox News and make a lot of middle-aged men cry. So if anyone has any tips on how I can do this, please get in touch.”

The video received more than 1 million views in a short time, as well as almost 6,500 comments. And that’s not even the most impressive part of this story (so stay with us.)

“I live in South Dakota. Can confirm. That’s why Amtrak is looking to finally pass through our state. To boost Taylor Swift’s tour,” one viewer wrote in the comments. Another added, “I’m a hair stylist going to tell all my clients this tomorrow like it’s a hard fact and just let it roll.”

Lots of advice started flowing in to help Katie along with her endeavors. Everyone, and we mean everyone, rolled with the joke, even expanding on it to keep it going strong!

“I saw this earlier!!! I wonder if they will have friendship bracelets in the gift shop? Does anyone know?” asked an audience member. “As an esthetician and medical worker, I tell my clients and patients this as small talk,” wrote each other.

One suggested, “make a petition. if it gets a number of signatures the government will actually have to respond, and the right will respond well before then,” and that’s what Katie did next. But, and it’s a big but, petitions on Change.org aren’t what you think. It was titled, “Stop Proposal to Replace Thomas Jefferson with Taylor Swift on Mount Rushmore.”

Wait a minute! So Katie started a rumor and then started a petition for stop crazy things from happening. Is your head spinning yet? We sure are!

The petition currently has nearly 900 signatures so far, and the page explains what’s going on (well, sort of).

“As a deeply concerned citizen, I am disturbed by the recent proposal to replace the image of Thomas Jefferson on Mount Rushmore with pop singer Taylor Swift. This is not what America means. The faces carved on Mount Rushmore represent our nation’s history and heritage, not a moment of popular culture,” the description on the petition page begins.

After talking about how important Thomas Jefferson and Taylor Swift “would diminish its historical significance,” he concluded by saying, “We must honor our past while looking forward to our future. Let’s keep Mount Rushmore as it is – a testament to history and America’s resilience – rather than changing it for temporary cultural relevance. Please join me in opposing this proposal by signing this petition today. Let’s stand together to preserve America’s rich history!”

Katie shared a follow-up video to explain the petition she created, saying she had created a “fake petition” and linking to it in her bio. He first asked people to check out the other links in his bio as well, and then explained that in his first video, he didn’t say “they should put Taylor Swift’s face on Mount Rushmore.”

“I don’t suggest it,” he said. “I’m just saying like wouldn’t it be crazy for people to believe something this outrageous?”

Regardless of her initial intentions, Katie has a free marketing team of strangers who help her get the word out. (Like online besties she didn’t know she had!) Many left comments on her video saying they signed the petition and others commented on how genius her show was.

If you just put “Taylor Swift Mount Rushmore” into the search bar on TikTok, you’ll get TONS of videos that keep the rumor going! TONS of videos, we tell you! (And remember, this all happened in just the last TWO DAYS!)

But it’s not just contained in TikTok and petitions. There is also the effect of this rumor XReddit and YouTube.

On Reddit, the rumor is starting to get a lot of attention with a link to ANOTHER petition on Change.org. This one is titled, “Swap Thomas Jefferson’s Face with Taylor Swift on Mount Rushmore.” Although the goal was only 50 signatures, it already got 46! This petition was started by someone named Kim Dunlap and also has an interesting explanation. Check it out HERE.
