Murdered mum May Haskell has reportedly told friends for years that she wants to divorce the husband she is now accused of cutting – but fears her powerful Hollywood agent dad will ensure she loses custody of their three children.
Friends told the Daily Mail that the 27-year-old mother had for at least four years discussed her desire to leave abusive Samuel Haskell IV, who they described as “weird” and with the “same creepy vibe” as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
“May first brought up the divorce when I got divorced in 2019,” a friend known only as Jenny told the outlet.
“I told him he could do it, but he just felt he couldn’t risk losing his son,” she said of their sons, ages 6, 8 and 12.
“She was afraid that her husband would take the children with the help of his very rich and influential father,” Jenny said of her friend who “felt trapped.”
“He said it didn’t happen – that there was no way he could get a divorce.”
The friend believes May’s desire for a divorce may have been behind her brutal murder, for which her husband — the son of former William Morris Agency executive vice president Samuel Haskell III — is now charged, along with her still-missing parents.

“Maybe he brought it up again, and then he snapped,” Jenny said, claiming Mei told her husband she had been physically abusive.
“He told me that he had hurt her. He had hit her.”
Jenny also claims Mei told her that her husband was not on the same page as her mother, YanXiang Wang, 64, and father Gaoshan Li, 72, who moved into their Tarzana home about five years ago to help care for the couple’s three children.

“He said he was rude to them and ignored them. That they made him feel angry,” Jenny claimed.
“They couldn’t speak English, but he made no effort to interact with them.”
Authorities believe Haskell chopped up his wife at his home and then hired a day laborer to dispose of three trash bags full of the disgusting evidence, which prosecutors said weighed about 50 pounds each.
The workers returned the bag and their $500 payment after they opened it and saw its grizzly contents – not believing his claim that it was full of rocks.
“I started seeing parts of the body, the navel,” one of the workers told NBC4 in Spanish.
He was arrested after the woman’s torso was found in a trash can at a shopping center about five miles from their home.
Police are still searching for the bodies of Wang and Li, although Haskell has been charged with their murders.
Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman said there was evidence he had butchered them in their home, adding, “I don’t need a body to charge with murder.”
Friends had described Haskell as “paranoid” before his arrest and said he had once pulled a machete on a childhood friend.
“Looking back now, he obviously likes knives or sharp things,” the friend told Fox News Digital.
May’s friend also described Haskell as “weird.”

“He would make these sudden movements with his hands and just talk about it,” a friend told the Mail.
“When I first met him, I kept thinking of Jeffrey Dahmer – the same creepy vibe,” the friend said. “He would walk very fast with his head down, rarely looking up, and never making eye contact.”
Haskell was previously charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

He pleaded no contest to battery and was placed on three years’ probation in 2010, according to the Los Angeles Times.
He has now pleaded not guilty to three counts of special circumstances murder and is being held without bail.
Meanwhile, his three sons and Mei are in the care of his married parents.
Her Hollywood executive father has yet to comment on the case and did not return messages.
