The Nantucket native is “confused” over the recent arrest of a retired doctor after drugs and prostitutes were allegedly found aboard his 82-foot yacht — but said Saturday that the weapons he had on board were “the same ball game totally different.”
Scott Anthony Burke, 69, was charged with drug trafficking and weapons charges Tuesday after officers raided his luxury yacht, the Jess Conn, while it was docked in Nantucket Harbor and found cocaine, ketamine, prostitutes, and two guns aboard.
Many islanders are laughing about drugs and prostitution, especially since cocaine is “common” on Nantucket, a local resident told The Post Saturday.
“Everybody is gossiping. We think it’s funny,” said the 61-year-old Nantucket native, who declined to be identified because his father works in the court system.
“Everyone does that. He was busted, that’s all,” he said of the islanders’ attitude toward Burke’s clumsy crime.
Infamous local drug use has long been rampant across the island, but wealthy Nantucketers tend to hide their illegal habits so tourists continue to visit the opulent oasis.
“I think we have enough tourists [that] we can warn people and say we have a crime happening here,” he said

The presence of weapons aboard the Burke, however, was a cause for concern.
“Rifle [are] a completely different ball game,” he said.
The Jess Conn was still docked in Nantucket Harbor on Saturday afternoon.
Although the deck appeared empty, a marina employee told The Post that there were still people on board, though it was unclear whether they were guests or crew members.

Whoever they are, they are no longer welcome at the marina.
“Someone came in a tender, and they were trying to get a sandwich or something from the island,” said the worker, who declined to be identified, adding that they heard the dockmaster tell other workers to push the small vessel and its passengers away.
“They tried to come to the marina, and we told them to leave. They don’t want the boat to be associated with us at all.”
Burke was arrested Tuesday after police responded to reports that a woman may have overdosed on a yacht and was feeling unsafe.

A police report said the woman was found “under the influence” in Burke’s bedroom on the yacht, while a prostitute was also found aboard the luxury boat, according to the Nantucket Current.
Investigators also found more than 43 grams of cocaine, about 14 grams of ketamine, two handguns and other ammunition in the yacht’s main floor bedroom, the Boston Globe reported.
Although police initially responded to a call about Jess Conn’s drug overdose, locals say a catfight that broke out on the ship may also have prompted authorities to intervene.

“Not only was the woman checked for drugs, but there was an apparent shouting match going on between a woman on the harbormaster’s boat and the launch boat that was either taking the person home or taking the person to,” a local resident said. told The Post Friday.
Burke pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday in Plymouth District Court when he appeared for trial.
His bail was set at $200,000.
The father of two grown children practiced in Colorado before retiring in 2021 and now lives at the ultra-exclusive Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida.
