Naomi Watts Posts Throwback Tampon Ad Talking About ‘Dry Va-Jay-Jay’s’

When she’s not being chased by a giant gorilla in “King Kong” or a tsunami in “The Impossible,” Naomi Watts takes to Instagram to talk about important things. Especially when it comes to menopause, dryness, and vagina.

Or as Watts says, “va-jay-jay’s dry”. According to Watts, talking about it is the only way to remove the stigma, so she starts talking, with a throwback commercial about tampons!

First, Naomi Watts Loves This Menopause Song

In October, which is menopause awareness month, Watts shares the funniest song ever, by New Zealand creator Shirley Serban. Watts introduced her as “this genius woman” and wanted Instagram to celebrate her, “for being brilliant, creative and funny AF. Lord knows we’re supposed to be laughing all this time and for those in the back, you might learn a little too. Please watch until the end.” He is beyond talented. I have watched it dozens of times and have laughed!!”

Christy Turlington, Selma Blair, and Michelle Pfeiffer found it funny too, and so did many other Instagram users.

While most of the comments on Watt’s IG called the video not only funny but also on-point, one has little hope to offer.

“It gets better. You get your brain back whole. And no more menstrual cycle: no PMS, no period pain, no more blood …. who needs it? There are SOME things to go through, yes, but the worst I’ve judged and there’s freedom on the other side. You’ll see!”

Even one man agreed, saying, “This is an excellent king. As a husband watching my wife go through this misery, it was spot on! Thank you for giving us a horrible laugh.”

Now, while the video is fun and even a Freddie Mercury impression is played (look up Bohemian Rhapsody, if you missed the connection!), one thing about menopause is the dryness. And no, not the “itchy skin” kind, but vaginal dryness.

Luckily, Naomi Watts is here to help!

54-year-old Naomi Watts has a question for you asking, “What kind of Dry January are you having… Dry AF… am I right?”

She then delved into it, saying how easy it is for us to talk about hormones when we’re young but not so much when women approach menopause. Said the actor, “Why is it that we can talk about periods and puberty so easily, but when it comes to menopause, and yes, dryness… we all get a little nervous…. I made this post in an attempt to capture the book end of female hormones.”

In a photo accompanying the post, Watts put a throwback, from nearly 40 years ago, saying. “I filmed a Johnson & Johnson tampon commercial when I was 15… facing forward… confident… curious… ‘when can I start using tampons?’”

In addition to the flashbacks, there’s Watts’ latest photo, which she says is, “a look at what it might look like if we tackled the hormonal challenges of midlife with the same courage.”

Watts goes on to say, “When it comes to the “adult version” of hormonal changes, we’re thrown into a shadow of secrecy and shame… with a lack of information, coupled with misinformation! Who knew we’d have to sneak in the good stuff before boasting?”

Her menopause positivity seemed to rub off on her many Instagram followers, one of whom was for the menopause cake, saying, “And why aren’t we more excited to stop getting periods? Not being tied to the pain and mess of every month should be a huge celebration. Normalize welcome to cake menopause!”

Here’s Watts, looking gorgeous at 15, and 54!

Too Wet Or Too Dry For Patriarchy!

Watts campaigned for lubricants, citing Dr. Jen Gunter, “Lube can be a great addition to sex. Some people may need it because they experience dryness or other menopausal symptoms, but many people, whether in menopause or not, just love lube. Unfortunately, there is a lot of stigma surrounding lubricants. Some people are even made to feel as if there is something wrong with them for liking and/or needing lube. It seems you are either too wet or too dry for the patriarchy. To that, I say, stupid. And, lube for all my friends, if they want it.”

Watts went on to say, “Let’s be real, take menopause and yes, dry va-jay-jay, mainstream. Unapologetically so! More than 1 billion people worldwide will be menopausal by 2025… That’s really dry.”
