Gymnast Nastia Liukin has turned off comments on her Instagram posts for the second time in two weeks.
The five-time Olympic medalist has posted more videos in which she is dressed in stylish outfits while showing off her striking style.
However, some of her followers have compared it to a “body check” and have even suggested that she may be struggling with an eating disorder, which is a pretty serious accusation to make.
Gymnast Nastia Liukin Disables Comments Amid Eating Disorder Allegations
On Sunday night, the former Russian-American artistic gymnast shared a ten-second video clip on Instagram showing her wearing a cropped sweater and patchwork skirt. Nastia captioned the video, “Happy Sunday, everyone @zara.”
While some fans expressed their support for his style, most fans criticized the 5’3″ athlete. Although the 2008 Olympic overall champion has always been athletic and thin, some of her followers believe she is too thin and suggest that she may be struggling with an eating disorder.

One fan even fully expected Nastia to delete comments on her post. “I know you’re just going to delete this or turn off comments, but as someone who has struggled for years with an eating disorder – you look like you need help,” one follower commented. “Not suggesting that you have any particular diagnosis, but this post raised a red flag for me.”
“You look amazing and I’ve loved you since I was an elite gymnast. But you look very thin. As long as you’re happy and okay who cares but you look really thin in an unhealthy way,” commented another follower. “I’m sorry but I’m going to say it……. You clearly seem to have some kind of eating disorder and I’m not going to sit back and let other people think it’s ok. I hope you get the help you need,” wrote another user.
Fan Tells Nastia ‘You Look Like You Need Help’
It should be noted that this is not the first time that Nastia disabled comments on her Instagram page after fans expressed their concerns. She has posted two more fashion videos in the past two weeks. Each time, she turned off the comments after fans began expressing concern about her size.
One user told her that she “doesn’t promote a healthy body image for gymnasts or people in general. You’re getting thinner and thinner,” Another follower agreed, writing, “I think so too. Always thin, its natural state. But getting thinner is worrying.”

However, some fans took issue with the idea that he was “promoting” anything. “Unless you know exactly about her health status, you have no place to tell the body image she is ‘promoting’,” responded one fan. “People are responsible for their own health, she posted a video of her getting ready…it’s not all promotion.”
While some fans may be sincere in their concerns, there are some comments that seem inappropriate. “Someone please throw that girl a cheeseburger and fries with a milkshake!” one user wrote. “He doesn’t even look attractive! He’s skin and bones,” commented another follower. “Can I buy you something to eat, please?” ask another user.
“These comments make me really angry right now. 20 pounds heavier and you all called him fat… now he’s too skinny. He can’t win, can he? How about you worry about your own body and stop criticizing it, since you haven’t lived a day in its condition… or know it personally, for that matter! Say what it is. You’re not ‘expressing concern…’ you’re making a judgement,” another fan responded.
“Let her family and close friends express their concerns if they feel there is cause for concern and keep your judgment to yourself,” they continued. “Nastia, I hope the nice comments stand out more than this rude one because you look amazing in this dress! Just like all the other looks you posted! Love it!”

At this point, it remains to be seen if the former athlete plans to share any more photos or videos with her fans, given the critical comments she has received about her body.
As of this writing, Nastia has yet to address the claims that she is struggling with an eating disorder directly.
