He attended Saumarjyoti Vidyalaya, Tinsukia, Assam and enrolled at Gyan Vigyan Academy, Dibrugarh for Class 12. He completed his studies at Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology, Guwahati. In college, he was diagnosed with a vitamin deficiency in his body because, in his dorm, he used to eat bland and sometimes spicy food. So, he used to eat plain rice with chips. After he was admitted to the hospital, the doctor told him to eat the right vegetables. During his second year, he started living on rent with his cousin in Guhawati. His friends and cousins would come to his house to party and eat food cooked by him. They encouraged him to learn to cook professionally. Before becoming part of the MasterChef India show, he used to work with his father in their tea garden. In his spare time, he always cooks new dishes. He helped his father grow vegetables such as potatoes and cauliflower in their garden. They also grow star fruit and oranges which are used to make wine.

In 2023, chef Vikas Khanna found her Instagram page and thought that she would be perfect for the show. He approaches her, but Nayanjyoti’s father is hesitant to send his son to a cooking show. Somehow, Vikas convinces her and Nayanjyoti begins her journey as a chef on the show. In an interview, she said that when chef Vikas visited her home, he cooked Pithas regional food for her which she really liked.
On March 31, 2023, he was announced as the winner of the show.

A few days before the show’s final episode, the show’s fan page shared a photo of Nayanjyoti wearing the winner’s golden apron and holding the trophy. After the picture went viral on social media, people started to think that she won the show. However, he did not win the store.
