Nayyara Noor was born on Friday, November 3, 1950 (age 71 years; in 2022) in Guwahati, Assam, India. He grew up in Karachi, Pakistan. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. He later attended the National College of Arts, Lahore. When she was in college, she sang the bhajan “Jo Tum Todo Piya” from the film ‘Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje’ (1955), which was originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar. There, a professor named Asrar Islamia College heard his song. He is a music expert and immediately liked Noor’s voice. He then asked her to make her career in singing. During the interview, while talking about the professor, Noor said,

He himself is a very good singer and is well versed in classical music. I was lucky to have the opportunity to sing some of his songs in my early days.”

Career

Noor started her career with Radio Pakistan as a singer. He later worked as a singer for various Pakistani TV shows like ‘Taal Matol’ and ‘Sach Gup.’ He later lent his voice for songs in various Pakistani films such as:

Noor used to participate in various mehfils and mushairas to sing her Urdu poems and ghazals. He gained immense popularity with his ghazals including “Woh Jo Hum Mein Tum Mein,” “Rang barsaat nay bharay kuchh tou,” “Phir sawan ruth ki pawan chali tum yaad aaei,” and “Kabhi Hum Bhi Khoobssorat Thay.” Noor lent her voice for Pakistan’s national anthem “Watan ki mitti gawah rehna.”

Death

On August 20, 2022, he died of cancer in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. His funeral was held at Jamia Masjid O Imambargah Yasrab, a mosque in Karachi, Pakistan. Many Pakistani celebrities shared their grief over his death including Pakistan President Dr Arif Alvi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
