NBA G-Leaguer Chance Comanche confesses to murdering woman in Vegas with ex-girlfriend as plot revealed in grisly texts

A former professional basketball player strangled a Washington medical assistant to death with an HDMI cord as he lured her into having “kinky sex” with him and another woman, who had planned the murder, newly released police records reveal.

Chance Comanche, 27, admitted that he helped his ex-girlfriend, Sakari Harnden, 19, with the gruesome slaying of Marayna Rodgers on Dec. 6, while he was in the area “between team activities,” according to Las Vegas police records obtained by KCRA.

Comanche plays for the Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings,

Rodgers, 23, of Lakewood, Wash., had traveled to Sin City on Dec. 1 with a friend “with the intention of engaging in prostitution.”

That same night, Harnden began seeking help from her ex-girlfriend after there were reported issues between her and Rodgers.

Harnden and Rodgers, who both worked as prostitutes in the Vegas area, argued over the Rolex because Rodgers threatened to “suck” Harnden if she didn’t give him the watch.

Comanche and Harnden then decide to kill Rodgers when they fail to hire an assassin for $3,000.

They discuss several different ways to carry out the murder, including poisoning, strangulation and a gun.

“I could cut her throat or just strangle that bitch,” Comanche allegedly wrote in a group message among Harnden and a third man, who had a relationship with someone who could have Rodgers “cut.” “If you get a nice thick string or a solid amount, I can do it from the back seat. Like how killers do it in movies.”

Harnden and Rodgers also got into an argument on Dec. 4, after she allegedly implicated Rodgers’ boyfriend in a double homicide in California, leading to the man’s arrest.

Comanche met Harnden through a dating app a year and a half ago, and broke up after a few months of dating.

The two stayed in touch after their breakup.

Rodgers was lured to death by Comanche and Harnden, who promised her to meet other men, and meet them at a predetermined location, according to newly released text messages.

On December 4, the Comanche checked into the M Resort and Casino in Henderson, Nevada, with the Kings, as they played a game the following night at the Dollar Loan Center.

After the Kings game, Comanche returned to his hotel with the team, before he went back outside and got into Harnden’s car and they drove to meet Rodgers.

After buying alcohol, the trio drove to a cul-de-sac near the former home of a Comanche friend, where they originally planned to commit the murder.

Harnden had explained to Rodgers that Comanche was a “trick” (a client of prostitutes) and “would pay them for their services,” with Sakari explaining Comanche liked “kinky sex” and wanted to tie them both up, before having sex.

“(Rodgers) agreed and started to take off his clothes. (Harnden) took off his clothes and climbed into the center console and straddled (Rodgers’) lap,” police records read, before adding that Comanche took a zip-top plastic bag already in the car and handed two to Sakari.

Rodgers willingly had her wrists tied before Comanche wrapped a rope around her neck while Harnden, still straddling Rodgers, put his hands on the helpless woman’s neck.

Comanche told police he used an HDMI cord to strangle Rodgers for “10 seconds” and stopped when he heard his victim struggling to breathe, but Harnden continued.

Rodgers then became unresponsive.

Comanche and Harnden checked his pulse and determined he was dead when they saw “fluid coming out of (Rodgers’) mouth.”

The fatal couple pulled over to the side of the road in Henderson, Nevada, and dumped Rodgers’ body in a ditch before covering it with rocks.

Comanche admitted to police that he used a towel to pick up the rocks to avoid getting his DNA on them.

The accused killer smashed Rodgers’ phone and drove back to the team hotel, where they stayed until Comanche left with the team around 8:50 a.m.

Comanche and Harnden remained in touch after the murder, with police believing the former King coached Harnden on how to talk to law enforcement.

“Answer them calmly. They only know what you tell them,” Comanche said at 10:03 a.m. Dec. 6. “You got this boo. This is a post-game interview. Just smile and wave.”

The Comanches played in another game with the Kings in Portland on December 7, the day after the murder.
