Giannis Antetokounmpo had so much fun coaching the 2023 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game on Friday night that he now aspires to be a head coach when he decides to retire from the league.
The Milwaukee Bucks star, along with his two older brothers, Alex, who plays for the Wisconsin Herd, and Thanasis, who plays for the Bucks, are coaches for Dwyane Wade’s team. All three players take their coaching duties seriously, drawing up plays, complaining to officials and supporting their teams. After all the fun and excitement from winning games, Giannis said he wanted to be a head coach.

“I’m in it — I want to win,” Giannis said Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after the game. “After that, when I retire, I want to be a head coach. A lot of people don’t know about me, but I want to be a head coach. I really want to be. It’s quite difficult, because you have no control. And, I know the game of basketball, I know how to play basketball, so it’s tough.”
The 28-year-old NBA star also faced small challenges during his first big coaching experience, but he didn’t let that dampen his excitement. “I lost my voice,” she said. “But I got some cough medicine, we got the win, I’m happy, we’re good.”

Giannis’ brother, Alex, said he also enjoyed the coaching experience and would like to become a coach in the future. “It’s busy, obviously it’s a great experience, we love it, we’re excited, and we have a great time overall and that’s all that matters,” he said. “We came up with ‘dub’ too. It’s different. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully that’s something we can do after basketball. That would be something very, very good. We’re just trying to have fun and enjoy this experience as much as we can.”
The brothers enjoy coaching but also find some moments quite challenging. “They put six on six players, played zone to throw us out, but we did it,” Thanasis said. “It is very good. It is good. We have fun. I have to enjoy. I have the feeling that I have played with my brothers, it is great.”
