NBC Defends ‘The Tonight Show’ Amid Staffer Horror Stories About ‘Toxic’ Jimmy Fallon

Ever since Rolling Stone basically did an exposé about Jimmy Fallon and the “toxic work environment” of ‘The Tonight Show,’ Fallon has taken a lot of flak for it all.

He has since apologized to his staff via Zoom and NBC has also jumped to his defense but in terms of social media, Fallon has always been a “problem t–t snout!”

Jimmy Fallon is apparently fine with his fall from grace, as a new article by Rolling Stone claims that the fun, upbeat persona he has for his show is just for show. Rolling Stone claims to have spoken to 50 current and former staffers of ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,’ and then spoke to 30 others — and none of them had anything good to say about their time with the show, Fallon and the participants of the show.

There have been claims that Fallon got drunk on the job, forgot his lines, and was confused about the script but what’s worse is that everyone tends to walk on eggshells around him, supposedly because Fallon can fly off the handle in seconds. The staff has a “cry room” where they go and have a good tear-down session to deal with stress and talk about “Jimmy’s good day” and Jimmy’s “bad day,” depending on Fallon’s mood.

He was accused of writing passive-aggressive notes to his staff such as, “Are you OK? Seriously, do you need help?” He would humiliate and insult them and cause them severe mental trauma. Some describe the working conditions as a nightmare.

With so much criticism heaped on him, Fallon still hasn’t gone on the public record with any comments, though he apologized to staff in an all-hands Zoom call. According to reports, Fallon said, “It’s embarrassing and I feel really bad. Sorry if I embarrass you and your family and friends… I feel so sad that I can’t tell you.”

For now, ‘The Tonight Show’ is in the dark due to the SAG-AFTRA writers’ strike but with these new allegations, everyone has to wonder, is Fallon in the host chair, considering he’s in the hot seat?

Despite allegations that some employees actually suffered physical health problems from the mental stress, such as weight loss and experiencing thinning hair and weak nails, NBC stood behind Jimmy Fallon, without naming him.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, in response to the article, an NBC spokesperson reportedly stated, “I am very proud of The Tonight Show, and providing a respectful work environment is a priority.”

They further stated, “As in any workplace, we have employees raising issues; they have been investigated and action has been taken where appropriate. As always, we encourage employees who feel they experience or observe behavior inconsistent with our policies to report their concerns so we can address them appropriately.”

However, the report claims the exact opposite of this. The staff has reported that none of the show’s nine contestants have ever been able to handle Fallon and any reporting of issues has resulted in the employee being fired. In fact, none of the show’s contestants have gone on record with any statements of support for the show or Fallon himself, providing more fodder for the firestorm surrounding Fallon’s toxic work environment. Employees are known to routinely talk about suicide and many voluntarily quit despite landing their “dream job”.

One example a staff member recounted was when Jerry Seinfeld made Fallon apologize to someone he’d rudely insulted during an awkward moment, but Seinfeld denied it all, saying, “It’s not awkward at all. Jimmy and I still think about it occasionally and laugh. Twisting a stupid event.”

Social Media Has No Love For Talk Show Hosts As Memes Abound

Jimmy Fallon received criticism from social media after allegations of a toxic work environmentMEGA

Social media has decided to lay it on Fallon, with many claiming they “always knew” he was a bad egg, and others saying they’re now waiting for others (like Jimmy Kimmel) to drop.

More have dug up his early encounters with various celebrities, to show that the “signs” are always there.
