NBC News has called on top Trump campaign officials to take down a fake video purportedly showing one of the network’s reporters breaking down the third Republican primary debate last month.
Trump 2024 Senior Advisor Chris LaCivita post the video on Nov. 8 Garrett Haake seemingly trash-talked Trump’s rival ahead of the Miami debate, which NBC News co-hosted with the Republican National Committee.
The video, which was still on X as of Monday afternoon, began as a typical “Meet the Press” style report.
But it cuts to footage of the candidates, with Haake’s voice berating each presidential candidate as they appear on screen.
“This is Ron DeSantis, an establishment RINO who wears insoles in his boots to look taller,” the voice says in the Florida governor’s video.
“And this is Nikki Haley,” said the voice of “Haake.” “Nobody really gives a damn about Nikki Haley.”
The video then cuts to South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, with a voice saying, “this guy is probably just a stage.”
A Trump campaign official shared a fake video showing Garrett Haake outside the third Republican primary debate.
“Who the f– invited this guy?” the voice then asked as former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared on the screen.
“And this guy is probably just delivering pizza,” the call concluded Vivek Ramaswamy.
“Anyway, no one cares about this great RINO debate,” deepfake added. “Especially when you know that Donald Trump is going to kick some ass tonight.”
The video then cuts to show Trump dancing. The 77-year-old former president skipped the Miami debate, opting instead to hold a fundraiser in suburban Hialeah.

LaCivita later clarified that the video was intended as a “parody,” write on X: “To keep the NBC News lawyers away, please note… THIS IS A PARODY.”
But NBC News’ lawyers have written to LaCivita urging him to take down the video, two people familiar with the exchange told Semafor.
The network declined comment when contacted by The Post.
It is not clear whether LaCivita created the video itself or whether it originated elsewhere.
“If the video tape was done by [or at the behest of] Trump campaign, it could find itself in a tort claim,” George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley told Mediaite.
The video ends with Haake’s voice saying “nobody cares about this bull–t RINO debate. Especially when you know that Donald Trump is going to kick some ass tonight.”
“If it was just a rebroadcast, there may be a greater defense in sharing a video that has drawn attention to the campaign, although NBC could still claim that the Trump campaign replicated the violation.”
Turley also noted that “Haake has a clear false light claim here” and “may also have a claim under the name or likeness provision.”
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
