The shocking moment a woman in a long-term coma gave birth in an Arizona nursing home has been captured on video.
Shocked staff at Hacienda HealthCare can be seen in the footage, visibly traumatized as they examine the woman’s diaper — and see the baby’s head sticking out.
The woman, 29, in a vegetative state for decades, was unconsciously raped by a male nurse before the sudden birth in December 2018.
Nathan Sutherland, 37, was arrested for sexual assault and abuse of a vulnerable adult after a DNA sample he gave to authorities under a court order matched the baby, who survived.
The new body camera footage, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, also shows police in the room with the victim but the video is heavily pixelated and the mother and baby are not visible, the Arizona Family news site reported.

“And when I looked, it was *inaudible*. The baby is coming,” a nurse told an officer on body camera video.
“When he opened the diaper, there was a head. And the poor assistant was out of work for a month. He’s very upset, very traumatized by the whole thing,” a former employee told Arizona Family.
The video also shows police trying to ascertain who had access to the room.

“All his medical records, primary care doctor, nurse, visitor log tracking about nine months ago,” a Phoenix police officer asked a staff member.
“Only female care,” a nurse told the officer. “Okay, so no man has ever entered her room so to speak?” asked the officer. “No,” said a staff member.
No one suspected Sutherland, the former nurse said, until a parent of another patient at the facility approached her and said, “I’m so glad you worked tonight. I know my son is always safe when you are here.”

The employee said he had a hard time reconciling the people he thought he knew with the reality of what Sutherland was doing.
He even considered contacting her in prison.
“I’ve thought a lot about writing Nate and seeing if he’ll write me back,” he said.
The woman Sutherland raped and impregnated has been disabled since nearly drowning at the age of 3.
Sunderland was sentenced to 10 years in prison in December 2021, the Arizona Republic reported.
