The makers of the new Harry Potter games are ignoring JK Rowling’s reservations about transgender women.
The soon-to-be-released game will now include a trans character, despite the Harry Potter creator criticizing the community, since 2017 and 2018 when he liked tweets speaking out against the movement.
Although she later claimed that she mistakenly liked the statement, which also made derogatory comments about trans women, the writer has since returned to her original position. In fact, he has doubled down on his stance to the point that celebrities like Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Eddie Redmayne have publicly taken a stand against him.
New Harry Potter Game Introduces Transgender Character Amid Backlash Against JK Rowling
The “Harry Potter” wizarding universe has introduced its first trans character in the upcoming game, “Hogwarts Legacy.” The highly anticipated role-playing game now includes a character known as Sirona Ryan — a witch who acts as the owner of the “Three Broomsticks” pub in the village of Hogsmeade. While the game doesn’t explicitly state that the character is trans, Ryan gives players a hint by saying:
“[Lodgok’s] mistrust of witches deepened… [I] hadn’t seen him in years when he came in a few months ago. But he recognized me immediately… This is more than I can say for some of my own classmates. [It] It took them a while to realize that I was actually a witch, not a witch.”

The statement was made after the player met the character in his pub and pulled up a chair at the bar to engage Ryan. Additionally, the new game will allow players to customize their avatar to identify as trans.
Although Harry Potter stans are excited about the game, Daily Mail has reported claims of the character’s inclusion as a “performance cow**t” to limit attention to the controversy surrounding him.
The controversy in question would culminate in calls for a boycott of the game based on Rowling’s stance that being trans should not eliminate gender identity. The philanthropist had written at the time:
“If sex is not real, there is no same-sex attraction. If sex is not real, the reality of women’s lives around the world will be erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex robs many of the ability to meaningfully discuss their lives. It’s not hate to tell the truth.”
The author of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” adds that the concept of women like her who have spent decades “empathizing with trans people, feeling a kinship because they are exposed in the same way as women—namely, to male violence— ‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has real consequences—is nonsense.”
While calls to boycott “Hogwarts Legacy” began as the game’s release date neared, it escalated after Rowling responded to Twitter users stating that “any support” for “harm”. In the words of the 57-year-old:
“Real people will not only burn their books and movies but the local library, anything with an owl on it and their own pet dog.”

With all this going on, a person who claims to be friends with someone who worked on the game says Warner Bros. video game studio Portkey responded to the growing pressure by including Sirona Ryant in “Hogwarts Legacy.”
University of Exeter Alum Closes the Deal With His ‘Harry Potter’ Royalty Check
The Blast observed last October that Rowling clapped back at Twitter trolls by posting her royalty checks to prove her unstoppable income stream. The drama began after the tweeter asked, “How do you sleep at night knowing you’ve lost an entire audience from buying your book.”
In response, the “Troubled Blood” author shared a screenshot of the original tweet along with the caption, “I read my latest royalty check and found the pain gone quickly.”
Rowling’s statement seems to have resonated with her followers who have given her over 22k retweets and nearly 300k likes. Some open-minded individuals who believe that he deserves every penny of his ringgit have also shown their support, showering him with positive words.
The last time the screenwriter did something controversial was when he skipped the HBO special, “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.” In her defense, Rowling said:
“I was asked to do it, and I decided I didn’t want to do it. I thought it was about the movie more than the book, right. That’s what the anniversary is all about.”
