Hoping to fly home for the holidays? Better grow some wings.
Flapping might be Big Apple travelers’ best bet this season — especially if they’re planning to board a flight out of Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
The popular air station has been ranked as the airport No. 1 for flight cancellations in the US by an October 2023 study from online travel insurance hub InsureMyTrip.
“Newark Liberty International had the highest cancellation rate (3.78%) for the first half of 2023,” said the report on delayed and derailed departures.
The cruise line’s substandard performance comes as no surprise, as it was also deemed one of the “worst” mega airports in North America by JD Power in September.
But the underperforming port is not alone in its failure to launch.

InsureMyTrip researchers also ranked the NYC freeway hubs of LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport as the second and third positions, with the highest likelihood of disrupting the wannabe jet-setter’s trip.
And, unfortunately, for East Coast travelers, there aren’t a ton of great alternatives.
New York’s Buffalo Niagara International Airport, Virginia’s Norfolk International Airport and Massachusetts’ Boston Logan International Airport all earned spots on the top 10 list of airports with the highest percentage of cancellations.

Airplane depots with the highest propensity for delays include Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, delaying nearly 34% of its flights, and Orlando International Airport in Florida, which has a reputation for keeping flyers grounded longer than they would like to be. 30% of the time, according to the findings.
To determine vulnerabilities, InsureMyTrip analyzed recent flight delay and cancellation data collected by the US Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
The investigators sought to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of weather, system disruptions, flight disruptions and other factors on US airports in 2023.
“This information can be used by researchers to make predictions about how air travel might be affected at certain times of the year,” said the report’s authors.
But all hope is not lost for globetrotters with designs on flying in or out of Gotham this winter.
People who find themselves stuck at the local airport can still look forward to a delicious meal.
While Newark Liberty International and JFK get high marks for canceled departures, the intersection lands at the top of the charts for housing some of the best airport restaurants in the world, according to a recent rating by virtual flight attendant forum Cabin Crew HQ.
In fact, Newark is home to the famous 1911 Smoke House BBQ eatery, where New York Times writer David Brooks, 62, famously got a cheeseburger, fries and a few drinks for $78 in September.

His viral stomach ache over the high cost of food got more than 39 million views on X.
But the hot spot’s owner, Maurice Hallett, doesn’t mind the free attention.
“We’re probably going to do a special thank you to David Brooks for all the publicity he’s given us,” Hallett told The Post. “It’s going to be a double cheeseburger and whiskey.”
