NFL star Reggie Bush is being sued for libel and defamation over the highly publicized Heisman trophy scandal.
The Blast obtained court documents showing that the former footballer is currently receiving a lawsuit for libel and defamation.

Reggie Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005, along with Doak Walker and Walter Camp. However, allegations arose that he received improper benefits during the NCAA’s investigation into the University of Southern California football program.
The investigation ultimately led to severe NCAA sanctions against USC, which resulted in a two-year postseason ban. As a result of the scandal, Bush voluntarily surrendered his Heisman trophy.

Lloyd Lake later filed a lawsuit against Bush to reclaim nearly $300,000 in cash and gifts Bush and his family allegedly received while he was playing football at USC. Michael Michaels, Lake’s former partner, reached an out-of-court settlement with the Bush family in April 2007.
In 2010, Lake’s attorney, Brian Watkins, called out Bush for allegedly “buying her silence,” as reported by ESPN. “Basically Reggie Bush bought his silence for $300,000, so he couldn’t talk to the media, and, of course, cooperate with the NCAA,” Watkins said at the time. “Reggie Bush has always insisted he did nothing wrong, so it will be very interesting to see if Michael Michaels’ testimony supports Reggie Bush or contradicts him.”

Now, thirteen years later, a new conflict has arisen between Lake and Bush. In court documents obtained by The Blast, Lake claims that he and Bush settled their differences in 2012. However, Lake accused Bush of defamation and defamation in a separate incident that occurred in September 2022.
According to court documents, “On Sept. 26, 2022, I Am Athlete released a one-hour, eight-minute interview with Reginald Bush on YouTube titled ‘Reggie Bush: ‘Give Me My Heisman Back.’” During the interview, Lake claimed that Reggie Bush ” repeatedly and clearly disparaging and slandering” Tasik.

Court papers state: “Despite knowing Mr. Lake since childhood, defendant Bush denied knowing Mr. Lake. Bush went on to claim that Mr Lake was trying to ‘blackmail’ him. This claim is patently false. Furthermore, Bush knew that Mr. Lake’s police record was not as long as the ‘Cheesecake Factory menu,’” was a comment made during the interview.
According to the lawsuit, “Bush’s express purpose in making the defamatory comments was to damage Mr. Lake’s reputation and cause Mr. Lake to suffer severe reputational damage.”

The document goes on to state that “Bush had a duty to refrain from defaming Mr. Lake, a private citizen, not involved in Bush’s life in any way since settling their dispute in 2012, and Bush’s failure to do so seriously injured Mr. Lake.”
Lake said that “Defendant Bush’s conduct in maliciously and deliberately defaming Plaintiff with statements he knew to be completely false” and asked the court to award him compensatory, general and punitive damages.

As Larry Brown Sports reported, Reggie Bush was quite vocal about his criticism of the NCAA in December 2022. At length. Twitter thread, Bush hinted that the NCAA paid $8 million to an unknown source to cover up allegations of wrongdoing they committed during the USC investigation. He warned outgoing president Mark Emmert that “secrets are not safe.”
In since deleted tweets, Bush wrote, “I wonder why the NCAA has been silent on me? They had a lot to say last year. These are some pretty serious allegations. Don’t run now Mark, the party is just getting started! Mark Emmert is a liar, a cheater, a thief, but most of all he is a coward. Hello Heisman Trust.”

In another deleted tweets, he added, “Actually the NCAA’s ONLY WITNESS was a convicted felon who was in prison for rape, months before he sat down with the NCAA to spread more lies, which they believed. And now they’re paying for it, ON RECORD. $8M’s sheesh how do you look at yourself in the mirror?”
At the same time, he also broadcasts short tweets which reads, “We got a receipt.”
