In a statement to the news outlet made by his lawyer, Michael Holtz, Carter slammed the allegations as completely false and “not legally meritorious.” He also revealed that the woman involved had been manipulated several times to make these accusations against him.

The singer’s attorney said (via Page Six), “This allegation about an incident that supposedly happened more than 20 years ago is not only worthless in terms of law but also completely untrue. Unfortunately, for several years now, Miss Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick – and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time.”

Carter’s lawyer also slammed Ruth’s lawyer as “opportunistic” for orchestrating a “press stunt.” He said, “No one should be fooled by a press stunt orchestrated by opportunistic lawyers – there is nothing wrong with this claim, which we’re sure the courts will soon recognize.

Carter’s statement came after he was hit with serious allegations by a woman named Ruth and her lawyer. Taking to Facebook on Thursday, December 8, the autistic woman, in tears, claimed that Carter had sexually assaulted her when she was just 17 years old.

Ruth sighed, per Explosion, that “the past 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame and self-harm that was a direct result of Nick Carter raping me.” He continued, “Even though I am autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe that nothing has influenced me more or made a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me.”

She also claimed that Carter used slurs on her and left her with a bruise on her arm, adding that the singer was very “threatening” and “nasty.”

Ruth said, “After he raped me, I remember him calling me a ‘re***ded b**ch’ and holding me and leaving bruises on my arms…Carter tried to scare me into silence… he was mean and threatening. “
