Nikki Haley scoffed at the suggestion that former presidents enjoy complete immunity from prosecution for crimes they were not impeached and removed from office – a key argument Donald Trump’s legal team made to dismiss two of his charges.
“That’s ridiculous. That’s completely ridiculous. I mean, we have to use common sense here. You can’t go and kill a political rival and then claim immunity [as] a president,” he said.
“I think we need to start doing the right thing.”
Trump’s legal team argued in the DC Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday that his attempt to stay in power after the 2020 election is part of his official duties.

Ron DeSantis, who previously called the argument “novel,” predicted the former president would lose the argument.

“I think the DC Circuit will rule against Donald Trump on that issue. I’m not sure what the outer limit is. I don’t think it should have been discussed. It will not be an issue for me because I will always follow the Constitution,” he said.
“We will uphold the best traditions of the office,” he added. “[Trump’s] will eventually be tried before a left-wing DC jury stacked with all Democrats.”
