His parents are Ajit Singh Randhawa and Raj Kaur Randhawa. His parents were Sikh immigrants from the Indian state of Punjab. His nationality is American, and his ethnicity is Asian-American.
His father had been a professor at the Punjab Agricultural University, and his mother had run her own shop. His mother graduated from Delhi University with a law degree. His parents moved to Canada after his father was offered a scholarship at the University of British Columbia. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1969, his father moved the family to South Carolina to work as a professor at Voorhees College, a historically black institution. Her mother later earned a master’s degree in education and taught for seven years in public schools in Bamberg. Exotica International, a popular clothing boutique, was founded by her in 1976. It was decommissioned in 2008.
He is the youngest of three siblings. Simran, her older sister who was born in Canada, is a radio host and an alumna of the Fashion Institute of Technology. His first brother, Mitti, retired from the United States Army Chemical Corps after serving in Desert Storm, and his second brother, Charan, works as a web designer. As a child, he started helping his mother in the shop.
