NJ animal shelter offers ‘neuter your ex for Valentine’s Day’ kitty special

How do you like me meow?

A New Jersey animal shelter is inviting cat lovers to name feral cats with ex-names for Valentine’s Day — and then spay or neuter them.

“Neuter ex your ex for Valentine’s Day,” Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center in Gloucester Township, New Jersey, announced in a hysterical promotion.

The cost to claw back a former romantic partner is $50.

“Because some things just shouldn’t breed,” the center said on Instagram in a purrrfect tagline for the drive.

“The cats will then be spayed or neutered before being released back into their colony as part of our trap-neuter-return (TNR) program,” he said.

“TNR is an important component of feral cat population control because it breaks the breeding cycle and stops the birth of unwanted cats in our community,” the South Jersey facility continued.

“Your donation ensures that we can offer spay/neuter surgery at a lower cost for community cats and their caretakers in need,” she added.

Eric Schwartz, Homeward Bound’s director of development, said more than 600 cats have been rehomed and euthanized through the program by 2023.

People interested in humiliating their ex for a good cause can fill out a donation form and select the “in honor” option to complete the heinous dedication.

Schwartz told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Homeward Bound plans to give each donor who requests a photo of a permanent cat named after their ex.

There is also an option to tell someone that you are donating.

“One woman sent the names of three ex-husbands and wrote, ‘I should have studied after the first one,'” Schwartz told Oulet.

So far, the campaign has raised more than $2,000, which will cover about 40 cat spays and neuters, he said.

“When you say ‘let’s eliminate the former,’ everyone has someone’s name that pops into their head,” Schwartz added. “We’re glad to be closing while doing something important.”

Homeward Bound isn’t the first animal shelter to use Valentine’s Day to raise funds and allow those unlucky in love to let loose.

The San Antonio Zoo has said that in exchange for a donation, it will name a cockroach after your ex — and feed it to animals, according to CNN.

In 2021, the Lexington Humane Society in Kentucky announced that for $10, people could write the name of their choice on a litter box for cats to do their business.

For $5, a cat at the Rhode Island SPCA will even remove your ex’s name.
