No gun or cellphone found in car where pregnant Savanah Soto was found dead with boyfriend

The family of Savanah Nicole Soto’s boyfriend doesn’t believe she killed the pregnant Texas teenager who disappeared the day she was supposed to be driven — because it was revealed that no firearms or cellphones were found in the car where police found the couple’s bullet-riddled body.

Gabriel Guerra, whose son Matthew Guerra, 22, was found dead with his girlfriend, Soto, 18, outside a San Antonio apartment complex, insisted that his son was not responsible for the couple’s death.

“They are inseparable. Is it a perfect relationship? No, but he is definitely not a prisoner there,” he told KENS5.

Guerra’s father and stepmother described how much the couple were looking forward to the arrival of baby Fabian.

“We still can’t believe we’re not going to meet him,” Guerra’s stepmother, Raquel Guerra, told Fox San Antonio.

Meanwhile, his father, Gabriel, points out the presents under the Christmas tree.

“That belongs to Savanah and Matthew and baby Fabian,” she told the outlet.

“We had to remind her at the baby shower to let Savanah open some presents. He opened all the presents. They must both be happy and excited,” said Gabriel.

Soto’s brother, Jordan Corona, told CBS News that police told him that both the pregnant teenager and her boyfriend were shot in the back of the head.

Soto was in the front passenger seat with a child carrier on her lap and her boyfriend in the back, a source familiar with the investigation told News 4 San Antonio.

Police did not find Guerra’s firearm or cellphone in the Kia sedan where the couple was found Tuesday.

Guerra’s family described their efforts to find the missing couple on Saturday, the day Soto was expected to be shot.

“As soon as, like, the 2:30 p.m. mark, we started panicking,” Gabriel told the outlet. “I started calling. I called, raced home, raced there, called the police.”

She said she raced to her son’s apartment, where she kicked in the door and found a lit candle and a bag of diapers that Soto had planned to take with her to the date.

“That’s when I saw Savanah’s overnight bag for the hospital that she didn’t bring and that made me panic even more,” Gabriel told Fox San Antonio.

She said she asked Leon Valley police if authorities could request her son’s location data, but a detective told her it was unlikely a judge would grant the request because the situation was not urgent.

“(Detectives) basically said, ‘They’re adults and if they want to disappear, they can disappear,'” he told News 4. “And, again, I remind them, the baby is late, it’s late — they missed the expiration date.

The couple were both found dead in the car, Soto’s sister-in-law said. WOW

“And to me, that’s life-threatening… I mean, there should be more urgency,” he added.

The detective told the outlet that he was instructed by the police chief to direct questions to the San Antonio Police Department, which did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

“I just hope we can resolve this,” Raquel told News 4. “And justice is served, because I can’t understand how anyone could do that to a pregnant woman. I can’t get it out of my head.”

Gabriel said he knew Guerra had been arrested in 2022 for domestic abuse against Savanah — and even suggested the boyfriend be in custody longer.

“They have contacted each other on the phone and that is a violation, so they can please keep her there and unfortunately it has to be Savanah to say that, and she won’t do it, so she is let go,” he told the outlet, adding that domestic abuse charges were never filed again.

Guerra is reportedly on probation for assaulting Soto on Christmas Day last year.

Gabriel said his son has a criminal history that includes unlawful possession of a weapon, evading police, and charges of assault causing bodily harm.

In June, a judge granted Guerra probation for the domestic violence case and allowed him to have contact with Soto as long as it was not “harmful or injurious,” according to court documents cited by News 4.

The trial was set to end in June 2024, but a judge extended it to February 2025 after Guerra received additional unrelated charges including unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading arrest in a vehicle and reckless driving, according to the newspaper.

“He doesn’t hang out with the best crowd,” Gabriel said, but added that he believes the young man will change when he becomes a father himself.

“He talked about how it would make him better, a better person,” Gabriel told KENS5.

Meanwhile, Soto’s mother, Gloria Cordova, also said she is looking for answers about the mysterious death.

“Why is he in the front and he in the back? Obviously, that says there are other people there,” he asked, adding that he suspected Guerra of being involved in illegal activities, according to the outlet.

“I think it has to do with him and what he did, not my daughter,” Cordova told CBS News.

“My daughter was just there with him and they didn’t want … they didn’t want someone to tell what happened, someone who would say it’s like this or this is what it looks like. He was just there at the wrong time,” he added.

“He used to abuse her and I told him to get out of the relationship, but he — he was stubborn, he didn’t want to listen. But I think this time he will leave it already. That’s what I heard,” Cordova told the outlet.

“They took an innocent, innocent girl who was going to be a mother, they just took her life for free,” Cordova told KENS5.
