Noah Schnapp has come out as gay!
The actor’s real life seems to mirror his on-screen life months after he confirmed that his “Stranger Things” character — Will Byers — is gay, with deep feelings for his best friend Mike Wheeler — played by Finn Wolfhard. Luckily for her, the people she idolizes the most in real life support her and her sexuality.
Noah Schnapp Confirms His Sexuality To Fans & They Love It
Schnapp shared his truth with his 31.7 million followers with a video showing him wearing a gray hoodie. The 18-year-old rested his head on a white pillow as he uttered the words of a woman, saying:
“You know it’s never that serious; it was never so serious; To be honest, we would never be that serious.”
At the top of the upcoming clip, the “Bridge of Spies” star wrote, “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know.’

Schnapp playfully acknowledged her “Stranger Things” character in the caption of a TikTok video, claiming they had more in common than she thought. Within hours, the post received over seven million likes and 337k comments, with one fan asking:
“Can we all appreciate that Noah just went out into the world and realize how much courage it takes to do that when you [SIC] a literal celebrity.”
The actor received the same warm response on Twitter as a person called he’s an “icon,” and another tweeted, “I’m so proud of Noah Schnapp for coming out!!! the caption almost made me choke up laughing.”
Along with Schnapp’s picture holding back the emotion, a third fan demanded“noah schnapp being gay makes a lot of sense because straight people wouldn’t be able to shoot this scene as well as he does.”
A fourth viewer uploaded a tearful video of Schnapps’ character appearing to his on-screen brother Jonathan — played by Charlie Heaton — with the caption, “this scene means more now, proud of noah schnapp.”

Schnapp’s Character Will Still Show His Love Interest On ‘Stranger Things’
As for confirming the sexuality of Schnapp’s character in the popular Netflix series, The Blast observes that the writers have been hinting at it all along. Will’s sexual orientation becomes more apparent in the eighth episode of the fourth season and the second part of the series.
The episode shows Mike ranting about his girlfriend, Eleven — played by Millie Bobby Brown — to Will, who reassures him of her love for him. Although the scene “solidifies” his feelings for his best friend, whom he is afraid to come out with. In an interview that took place after the episode aired, Schnapp said:
“Obviously, it was hinted at in the first season. It’s always there, but you never really know, is he just growing up slower than his friends? Now that he’s getting older, they make it a very real and obvious thing. It is now 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike. But before, it was a slow arc.”
The Teen Choice Award winner also explained that since the fourth season aired, he’s been approached by fans telling him how much they relate to Will’s character.
