Nurse who helped Kentucky moms after alleged drugging, rape at Bahamas resort recounts terrifying scene: ‘In horrible shambles’

The veteran nurse practitioner who treated two Kentucky mothers who claim two Bahamas resort staff members drugged and raped them during their vacation says “it was the worst scene” she’s ever worked on.

Ladonna Batty, a family nurse from Arkansas, was a passenger on the same Carnival cruise that Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson were on when the ship docked on the island of Grand Bahama earlier this month.

“Out of my 20 years of training, it was the worst scene I’ve ever been on. It was a horrible situation for both girls,” Batty told LEX 18. “Worst thing I’ve ever seen. They were in a terrible mess. “

The mums, who wanted to spend the day at the beach and take some photos, were visiting Pirates Cove Resort when a male member of staff allegedly offered them a two-for-one tropical drink deal

The drink, however, was reportedly stronger than expected, and both women became extremely intoxicated 15 minutes after their first sip, Dobson told NewsNation’s “Cuomo.”

A second resort worker is alleged to have lured the women to a remote area and taken them to where they were eventually attacked while incapacitated.

Batty was in the area when other staff found Shearer and Dobson passed out in the bathroom, and she went into nurse mode.

“I took out my phone and immediately started taking notes on everything, documenting everything I saw,” Batty told the outlet.

The nurse practitioner knew something was wrong with the woman, claiming the couple had “difficulty forming sentences.”

“It was a horrible scene,” Batty told Inside Edition. “I thought as a practitioner, ‘Let me get all this documented, let me get all these details for the girls because they won’t remember some of it if they’re sedated.'”

Batty believes Shearer and Dobson were assaulted and under the influence of more than alcohol.

“Seeing those girls in that condition, it was horrible,” Batty said. “Something has happened to them that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.”

The women claim the police did not handle their allegations properly but are thankful Batty arrived when he did.

“If it wasn’t for Ladonna supporting us, I don’t know what would have happened,” said Shearer.

Once they returned to the ship, the mothers received the results of their toxicology tests – which showed they had many drugs in their systems, including benzodiazepines.

“Anybody should be able to go on holiday and have a drink or a Coca-Cola and take some pictures and not be brutally attacked,” Batty added.

The resort said the two staff members accused of the attack were fired for violating a zero-tolerance policy by “fraternizing with guests or behaving in an unsafe manner,” according to a statement obtained by WLEX.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force has arrested both men in connection with the sexual assault.

The mother’s toxicology report revealed they had multiple drugs in their system, including benzodiazepines. Christopher C. While Dobson and Shearer were on the cruise, the US embassy in the Bahamas issued a level 2 travel advisory after a rise in crime in the island nation including 18 murders that occurred throughout January.

The mothers were angry with the cruise line for not sharing the advice with them before they got off the ship to go to the resort.
