An unconscious truck driver was just feet from death when he stopped his 18-wheeler at a railroad crossing in front of a speeding train, which crashed into the truck, turning the white big rig into a pile of debris.
The wreck happened about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Versailles, Ohio when the semi truck stopped at the West St crossing on the CSX railroad tracks as a safety barrier was coming down, Village of Versailles Ohio EMS said in a statement on Facebook.
The chaotic scene was captured on video by observer Isaiah David Everett Vanderhorst who was standing in the parking lot of one of the banks in the small village.
In the clip, an 18-wheeler has crossed the track as warning lights and bells start to sound while the safety gates begin to lower.
An approaching train can be heard in the background as the first truck makes it safely across.
The driver of the second truck was pinned when a red and white barrier fell between his cab and the trailer, not having time to move when the train hit the tracks.
“Oh no! Oh no!” two witnesses can be heard behind the camera as the truck driver gets out of the cab, checking where the barricade has landed between the trucks.

As the train approached the crossing, the driver and passengers slowly jogged off the track just before the devastating impact.
The taxi broke into hundreds of pieces as debris flew across the parking lot and runway.
“Upon arrival, units found a semi perpendicular to the track with severe front-end damage and a large debris field,” the EMS statement said.
“The train was proceeding West down the track which stopped just East of the Conover Rd crossing,” about a mile and a half from where the number of trucks were now sitting.

Everyone on the train and the two passengers in the truck were accounted for.
Two people were evaluated by EMS at the scene but did not require further medical treatment.
While the majority of the truck’s cab was destroyed in the crash, the train’s engine also sustained damage but was repaired by CSX, according to the post.
The truck’s cab also spilled oil, which was cleaned up by the Versailles Fire Department, according to WDTN.

Emergency crews announced EMS had been on the scene for 2 hours, with firefighters remaining near the runway until 3:15 p.m.
Late last year, an 18-wheeler got stuck on the tracks in Aledo, Texas, causing a Union Pacific train to skid and derail.
Two train engines and 17 train cars derailed in total, the Texas Department of Safety said of the December crash, which resulted in only the train conductor being taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
