He shared a photo of Britney and Sam on his Instagram page along with his apology, insisting that his comments were nothing more than a light joke. “Y’all, a few days ago Sam and Britney announced their engagement and me being me, I’m making a joke,” he wrote at the time. “My intention is to make them laugh not to cause pain.”

“I have contacted this lovely couple personally to apologize and now want to restore just a little bit of the happiness they took away. Britney’s fans have seen her go through a lot of pain and she’s found happiness. We are very excited for him. So let’s show them some love,” he concluded along with the hashtag “no negativity.”

Sam was actually one of the first to comment on the post, writing, “You’re so kind to explain but I don’t have any hard feelings. Jokes and misunderstandings come with the territory,” along with praying hands, hearts and a hundred emojis. He later took to his Instagram story, joking, “Of course we got [an] iron clad prenup to protect my jeep and shoe collection [sic] he dumped me one day.”

Luckily, Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, had hired a family lawyer to draft a prenup. Unfortunately, it looks like Sam plans to fight him. On Wednesday night, a source told Page Six that the 29-year-old actress was reportedly “trying to negotiate concessions outside of her prenup and threatening to reveal very embarrassing information about Britney unless she was paid.”

In addition to his threats to reveal Britney’s secret, the actress is also seeking spousal support and attorney fees, according to divorce documents first obtained by TMZ. The outlet was the first to announce that the two had called it quits, reporting that Sam was the one who left the relationship amid unconfirmed rumors that the pop star had cheated on her.

It looks like the split may actually have happened last month, as Sam wrote July 28, 2023, as the breakup date. In the divorce filing, the actress, who is represented by attorney Neal Hearsh, explained that she intends to dispute at least some of the prenups.

Sources tell Page Six that Britney has hired high-powered divorce attorney Laura Wasser to represent her, noting that her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, made sure there was a prenup before the two tied the knot. A source told ET, who was the first to report the divorce, that Britney “insisted she didn’t cheat,” adding, “The two didn’t get along for a while and it finally ended after a big blowup.”

“He has denied any allegations of cheating and is going through a lot of emotions,” they continued. “He was hurt because the situation brought up old feelings towards him. This was the last thing he needed, especially after his son moved to Hawaii, worried about the fires there, and so on.” Britney shares two teenage sons with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, and gave official permission for them to move to Hawaii on August 1.
