An Ohio mother of two was allegedly kidnapped and shot to death by a friend of her recently deceased husband – just days after she began allowing the suspect to live in her basement, according to police and reports.
Kaitlyn Lynch, 36, was found dead in the front seat of her vehicle in Tennessee on Aug. 19 after a long police chase a day after she was reported kidnapped at gunpoint outside her home more than 300 miles away in suburban Cincinnati, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Lance Miller, 32, was arrested behind the wheel with the body next to him and charged with murder, kidnapping, escape and abuse of a corpse.
Miller, from Texas, was a friend of Lynch’s husband, who had died in the spring of an unspecified illness — and was staying with him after arriving in the area just six days earlier, the newspaper said.
“She had fallen on hard times and he offered to let her live in his basement,” Lynch’s employer, James Hartke, told the Enquirer.

“She was willing to help everybody,” he said of the dead woman, who most recently served as an assistant at his law firm.
It is unclear how Miller knew Lynch’s husband. However, he had joined Lynch and his friends for drinks after work on Aug. 18, Hartke said — the day Lynch was allegedly kidnapped.
There was talk that Miller harbored romantic feelings for Lynch, but he wasn’t interested, the employer said.

The woman was on the phone with a friend outside her home late that night when the line went dead after she was apparently shot, Hartke said she was told.
Co-worker Sherrie Rickman told the newspaper that Lynch’s daughters — ages 7 and 8 — were her world.
“He is very sweet. She is a very brave girl. He’s a hugger,” he said, adding that Lynch has a law enforcement background.

A GoFundMe campaign had raised more than $70,000 as of Monday morning for Lynch’s funeral and for her daughter.
“We are in complete disbelief that this has happened to our Kaitlyn,” a statement from her family read.
“Anyone who knows Kaitlyn knows how much she loves being a mother to her two beautiful daughters and how she is always ready to lend a hand. She was funny, beautiful, determined and she will be greatly missed by everyone,” he added.
Miller is being held in a Tennessee jail awaiting extradition to Ohio.
