Ohio toddler drowns in neighbor’s pool after wandering from home as mother slept: cops

A 2-year-old Ohio boy drowned in a neighbor’s pool after he wandered out of his home while his mother slept and his father was at work, authorities said.

Toddler Marcus Hall was found at the bottom of a nearby above-ground pool on Wednesday by local police after the child’s panicked mother couldn’t find him, WTVG reported.

The child – nicknamed Mar Mar – was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead.

Anthony Hall, Marcus’ distraught father, told the station that the 2-year-old and his 4-year-old brother were at home in the Oregon town of the Buckeye State with their sleeping mother when the two children left the house.

A neighbor called 911 around 10:30 a.m. to report a baby in a diaper chasing a dog with no adults around, according to audio from dispatch obtained by the store.

An officer arrived at the scene and spoke with the mother, advising her to possibly put on a safety device, police reportedly said.

But an hour later, the mother called the police for help as she searched for little Marcus.

“I was startled when the police here knocked on my door because they said the kids were running outside, so when I woke up, it was just my 4-year-old here,” said the worried mother, with the dispatcher replying, “So your son the 2 year old is missing?”

“Yes,” the mother said, according to WTVG.

When the child was found in the pool, an officer jumped in to retrieve him and another officer quickly performed CPR before he went to the hospital.

“He’s a cool guy, like,” Anthony Hall said before he became too choked up to continue. He remembers his son because of his smile.

A violation was listed against the neighbor’s pool because it was supposed to have a fence around it, and Children’s Services is looking into the case, the station reported.
