About ten minutes later, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck about four miles west of Arcadia, according to the USGS.

After that, the USGS reported two smaller earthquakes – measuring 2.7 and 2.5 magnitude respectively. On Saturday morning, seismic activity resumed with a magnitude 2.6 earthquake recorded near Arcadia at around 4:45 am CT.

About an hour later, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Edmond, just north of Oklahoma City, while a smaller 2.7-magnitude earthquake struck around 6:55 a.m. CT. As of Saturday morning, no damage or injuries were reported.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.9 or less generally cause disturbances. It is likely to be felt by most people indoors, while earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 or higher usually result in damage.

“While most aftershocks are smaller than the mainshock, a small proportion of aftershocks result in earthquakes larger than the main event. Seismic hazards remain high in the area. Citizens should secure valuables that may shake during a possible strong aftershock and practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On in the event of a damaging event.”

Recent earthquakes have not surpassed the strongest recorded in Oklahoma history, the magnitude 5.8 earthquake on September 3, 2016, near Pawnee in northern Oklahoma.

In March 2017, the Pawnee Nation filed a lawsuit in tribal court against a certain Oklahoma oil company, alleging that the company injected wastewater underground, linking it to the cause of the earthquake.
