American TV personality Oprah Winfrey paid tribute to the late veteran journalist Barbara Walters calling her a “powerful and generous role model.” The legendary broadcast journalist and creator of “The View” passed peacefully at his home, according to reports.
In addition to honors from celebrities and other TV personalities, Walters received praise from Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, where he spent most of his career. Iger called Walters “a true legend.”

“Barbara Walters died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones,” revealed Walter’s publicist, Cindi Berger. “He lived his life without regret. She was a pioneer not only for women journalists but for all women.
Walters was born on September 25, 1929, to Dena and Louis “Lou” Walters. He was exposed to celebrity at a young age because his father worked in the entertainment industry, which Walters says taught him valuable lessons.

Winfrey has never hidden the fact that Walters was a huge inspiration to her when she first started her career as a television personality, stating that at the age of 17, she aspired to be a TV reporter like Walters.
She surprised Walters with a guest appearance and invited hundreds of female reporters, including Katie Couric, Hoda Kotb, and Gayle King, to her farewell tour on “The View” in 2014.
